Chapter 5:

***** LATER THAT AFTERNOON *****

After we had lunch together, Donald left to attend Trebles practice while I had my own Bellas rehearsal to attend to. We currently just finished doing a round of our performance and almost everyone was tired, including me. Normally, this wouldn't bother me because I was used to it at cheer camp but since I had an extra workout session earlier in the morning, I found myself getting tired as well.

"I should have taken that cardio tip more seriously." Amy said trying to catch her breath.

"How much have you done?" Aubrey asked her.

"You just saw it." Amy replied.

"Chloe, you gotta be able to hit that last note." Aubrey told her.

"I can't. It's impossible. And it's because of my nodes." Chloe complained.

"Well if you can't do it, then someone else needs to solo." Aubrey said.

"I think Beca or Addie should solo." Chloe replied.

"Yeah they would be excellent. But also someone else might be equally as excellent." Amy said.

"It's true. I don't wanna solo." I told them.

"And they might be shy and not wanna come forward and say they wanted a solo." Amy continued.

"Well Beca doesn't want a solo, so..." Aubrey started to say.

"I would be happy to do it if I got to pick a new song and do an arrangement." Beca offered.

"Well that's not how we run things here." Aubrey replied.

"Aubrey, maybe Beca has a point. Maybe we could try something new." Chloe suggested.

"A-ca-scuse me? You can sing Turn the Beat Around and that's the last I wanna hear of this." Aubrey said already getting mad.

"That song is tired We're not gonna win with it. If we pull samples from different genres and layer them together, we could make some..." Beca tried to explain but Aubrey cut her off.

"Okay let me explain something to you because you still don't seem to get it. OUr goal is to get back to the finals and these songs will get us there. So, excuse me if I don't take advice from some alt-girl with her mad-lib beats because she's never been in a competition. Have I made myself clear?" She asked.

"Crystal. I won't solo." Beca said stepping back.

"Fine. Fat Amy?" Aubrey called.

"Yes, sir?" She replied.

"You'll solo." Aubrey said and Amy cheered out a "Yes!" While drawing a heart on her shirt.

***** REGIONALS DAY *****

We got to Carolina University late because Ashley had a hard time finding her shoes. In the end, she found out that her roommate borrowed them without asking permission. When we got there, we saw a group singing using sock puppets.

"A cappella out of sock puppets? Genius." Fat Amy commented.

"Yeah, look at the black one with a white sock." Stacie said.

"It's making a statement." Cynthia commented.

"There's no craft there. Watching them will make you worse." Aubrey scolded.

"At least they're different." Beca replied. The Sockappellas finish their performance and we huddle.

"Hands in. Remember, "ahh" on three. One, two..." Aubrey counted but the other still couldn't get it. We just went ahead and started walking towards the stage and took our places. Aubrey blew the pitch pipe.
