Ok so here it is. The famous. ALS Ice Bucket "Challenge". Everywhere you look, there it is in front of your eyes. Maybe you did it yourself. Fun ha? Or was it scary?
Was it really a challenge for you to pour a bucket of water over your head with ice in the bucket? No? I thought so.
I had gotten nominated twice, but did not accept it. You know why? Nope, not cuz I'm scared. Nope, not cuz I'm a wimp. I didn't accept it, because of the worldwide global crisis. Lack of water. Dehydration. Walking so many miles for water that's most likely not clean. I didn't do it for the people that are suffering due to lack of access to water.
Is pouring cold water on your head a real challenge? No it's not, it shouldn't be, anyways. But is it not a REAL Challenge to walk maybe 10, 20, or even 30 miles just for water. Turns out that water 74% of the time isn't even clean. Oh, and believe me, some people have to walk more then 30 miles for water. Clean or not, they need water.
Then here everyone is, pouring bucket(s) of water on themselves. I do understand, that this is for awareness, but there are indeed other ways to raise/spread awareness, without wasting the most important resource, that more then millions of people don't have.
An estimation of 783 million people lack access to clean water. That's just an estimation. Now, an estimation of 3.4 million people die each year due to the lack of water, sanitation, or unhealthy water. Families, couples, adults, teens, children, babies, you name it! A whole lot of animals die to because of the sanitation. Don't think why should I care about those regions? Well, let me tell you something. Its not just in those regions. Right here in America, there are people who don't have water.
Now think about those thousands of buckets of water that's been/being wasted. Well maybe not even thousands. Maybe millions. All across America, people are doing it. (Most people don't even donate the $10, they are supposed to, for when you accept it.) Don't get me wrong though, it's not just America. Its happening everywhere. Someone nominates 3 other people, those people nominated, if they accept it, they nominate 3 more people, and so on so forth. All that adds up guys.
All that water that could've benefited those people in need of water, all across the world. What if a person who is close to death due to the lack of water and dehydration sees a video of this, what they call "challenge"? I'd be devastated if that was me. Put yourselves in their shoes. Imagine going through all that. Suffering all that pain, only because of water. Then seeing thousands or millions of people dumping water on themselves, when that water could've been soooooooooooo beneficial. Damnit! All that water could've saved so many lives!!
Open up your eyes guys. Take a look around you. What you do, most likely always affects someone. Stop and think.
My heart goes out to those who suffer, those who are struggling, and those who are no longer here. I love you guys so much and by the way, my next book is hopefully going to be published soon, and it's about worldwide problems.
