Woman In Blue

"Dear, don't worry," a woman whispered in my ear, her voice a pleasant combination of deep and soft that made me melt.  Her arms were cradling me, and her legs were tucked under my own, leaving me numb in the comforting woman's arms.

I opened my eyes, and lost my breath.

Sparkling azure eyes gazed down into mine, glowing with the most beautiful blue hue imaginable, framed by impressive eyeliner. Her face was fair and elegant, and more impressive yet was her hair, which shimmered a navy blue and was curled into a bob.

She smiled, and I lost my ability to talk.

"You're safe now," she murmured, her face only inches away from mine.  She was so close that warmth emitted off her, making the knots in my stomach subside. Concern pooled in her large, expressive eyes.

"Who... who are you?" I blurt out, my cheeks flushing red at my stuttering.  Smiling, she scooped me up into a sitting position near a mossy tree stump.  "Alma Peregrine, and may I inquire as to your identity?" she softly says, a strong accent rolling off her tongue.  "Scarlett, Scarlett Williams," I whispered, my voice hoarse.  Why was my voice sore?

Light shined through the bare trees and onto the Peregrine woman, creating a kaleidoscope effect that made the delicate woman even more exquisite.  Her vintage top and skirt were incredibly detailed around the edges, giving her an even more unique and glamorous appearance.  Her black nails were incredibly long and sharp, although I had the feeling that she wouldn't use them on me.  Pale, creamy skin covered her face, illuminated by the sunlight.

"Would you like to visit my house?  We're quite close by," she grins, pulling me out of my trance.  "And while your dress is fitting, it seems time for a new one," she adds, glancing down at my body with a grimace.

As much as I'd focused on her, I'd forgotten where I was and what I'm even wearing.  My crimson velvet dress was shredded from the thigh downwards, leaving rips in the seams all the way up to my breasts. Strings of pearls were still cascading down the front of my dress, covering much of the exposed flesh.

"What happened," I wonder, seeing my salmon-colored skin coated in dried blood, "that did this?" A solemn look crossed Peregrine's features as she whispers, "I don't discuss unpleasant matters." Furrowing her eyebrows, she reached out her slender hand to me.

I lightly grasped it, and she scooped me up.

I followed the woman in blue through the woods, although I couldn't help but notice the era her clothing was inspired by, and how smug it fit to her svelte frame.

Once we cleared the trees, an enormous, beautiful mansion greets us, complete with a greenhouse and sets of dormer windows.  Rusty bricks and olive-toned patterns bathe the tall manor, and the trees around it cast shadows that dance upon its face.

"This is my home," the Peregrine woman blurts, spinning to face me with a glowing smile and a slight blush.  Her prim, styled hair fell askew from its earlier updo, and she looks breathtakingly gorgeous.

  I can't help but grin.
