"That's new." Renjun pointed at the book tucked underneath Xiao Jun's arm. "Is that a comic book?"
"Yeah." the other answered, giving the cashier the money.
"Hm, I rarely see you read those. In fact, I don't think I've never seen you read a book that contains pictures."
A breathy laugh escaped Xiao Jun's mouth. "It's just something different."
Xiao Jun sat at his own table in the shop, peacefully enjoying his ice cream, while two other boys were busy conversing with Renjun.
He lifted his eyes from his book for a second, getting up to throw his trash when he spotted a familiar looking box the boys gave Renjun. He narrowed his eyes, tilting his head, trying to recall where it was from.
After a few seconds, he realized it was the chocolate covered pretzels Hendery had brought the other day.
It looked like those two boys were selling them to Renjun, and Xiao Jun grew curious. He walked up to the counter again, seeing the cashier boy trying to dip a pretzel into some ice cream.
"Renjun,"
The boy looked up. "Yeah?"
"Do those boys sell the pretzels?" Xiao Jun asked.
"You mean Jeno and Jaemin?" Renjun pointed towards the dudes who were sitting at a table in the corner and eating some ice cream. "Yeah, they sell them"
"Oh, okay." he nodded his head. "Thanks Renjun."
Walking out of the shop with a box of chocolate covered pretzels in his hands, Xiao Jun turned the corner, in the direction of Hendery's house. It only took him about two minutes to get there and he approached the front door, pressing onto the doorbell.
A woman greeted him, Hendery's mother, he assumed. "Hello." she tilted her head, her sweet voice wavering through the air. "Are you here to see Hendery?"
"Yes, I am." Xiao Jun mustered the most formal tone his voice could portray.
"Oh okay, I'll call him down. Come in."
He stepped into the house, the scent of honeysuckle hitting his nose. The furniture was arranged quite differently from when Yangyang use to live here, the house had a new vibe to it.
"Hello!" Hendery leaped off the last step of the stairs. "Xiao Jun? You're here?"
"Yeah." he answered, continuing to look around the house. It was the first time he's been here since Hendery moved in.
"You bought pretzels?" Hendery tilted his head to the side.
"They're a thank you for letting me borrow your comic book." Xiao Jun said, placing the book into Hendery's hands. "It was really good by the way, I would like to read more."
"I'll take you upstairs." Hendery motioned the other boy to follow him. When they entered Hendery's room, Xiao Jun's eyes wandered up the cream walls, pictures of characters scattered across them, the colors giving off nice accents to the place.
His lips curved into a smile as he looked over the comic filled bookshelf. This is such a geeky room, he thought.
Hendery took the box of pretzels out of Xiao Jun's grasp and sat on his bed, ripping the cardboard open, beginning to munch on the sweets.
"Someone's hungry." Xiao Jun chuckled, walking further into the room, stopping in front of the other's desk. He spotted a pink paper boat sitting in the corner, extending his arm to touch it. It was delicate, like any other origami boat Hendery has ever crafted.
"Are you gonna set this boat out to sea?" he asked.
Hendery swallowed his food, tilting his head to the side. "I might, I'm not sure yet. But it's too pretty to be washed away by the waves."
"I never knew you were someone for pink." Xiao Jun laughed, turning around. "I guess you learn new things everyday."
"Hey, don't make fun of me." Hendery pouted as his friend sat down next to him.
"I'm not." Xiao Jun took a pretzel, examining it in his hand. "You're just an interesting person."
That melt worthy chuckle wavered through the air, and Xiao Jun was dying internally.
