As we leapt the sky betrayed us. Slowly it became darker and the sun began to set. It turned a beautiful pink-orange. It reminded me of a yolk from an egg in many ways. Plumb exhausted I plopped myself down the edge of the train. My legs dangled in the rushing wind. Alan placed himself next to me.
"What are we gonna do now?" I sighed. Any minute the sun could go down completely and leave us in darkness. Alan stared at me with a kindly expression. "You must be too tired to think straight. Vampires can see in the dark," he explained.
True, I hadn't thought of that at all. "But there is the matter of sleeping," I said. I literally couldn't take one more minute. I start to doze off and I tip over the side. Luckily Alan catches me. We both agree that we need sleep and quick. So Alan stealthily climbs down the rusty latter and peeks into the train stall.
"All clear," he tells me. I carefully lower myself down. I'm not even scared to be on a train like this. Not after a full day if being on top if one. I stumble in and to my relief their is lots of hay. I walk over to a cozy corner and make myself at home. Alan comes and snuggles next to me. This I good because I'm very cold.
Suddenly I remember something quite crucial. "Hey Alan, earlier today (I know, that seemed like weeks ago) you said that Valen was the one who bit me. Who is he?" I asked. Alan looked uncomfortable. "Well, that's my father actually," he stammered. My jaw dropped. "No.... way," I exclaimed taken aback. "Way," Alan said sadly.
"Who?" I asked. Alan seemed to understand what I really wanted to ask and said,"When I was three, my dad made me one too." The jerk. How could somebody nearly kill their one toddler? I didn't ask any more questions. I can fill in the rest of the gaps myself.
After a few silent minutes Alan whispered,"And he killed my mother. She never knew he was a vampire. Not until after they got married and had me."
"How did she not suspect?" I asked. "I don't know, I was to young to remember much," he said. Things were getting much to sad. I feign a yawn.
"I'm going to bed now," I say leaning my head on Alan's shoulder.
"Sweet dreams, Quinn," he says stroking my messy hair. I quickly slip away.
Alan's p.o.v.
Quinn snores and slobbers on my shoulder but I don't care a wink. In fact, I'm the happiest I've ever been. Quinn is the only light in my dark world right now. With a hateful father and a dead mother, I am usually lonely. But Quinn's made me realize something. Something that I already knew but she clarified. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. She's been doing that her whole life.
