Mum I'm home! Called out Jody as she let herself into the house. There was no answer. She must be still at work.
Jody headed upstairs to her room. The room was bare except for a bed, a desk and a wardrobe. Jody started to unpack. She put all her clothes in the wardrobe and started to arrange her belongings on the desk. There was her music box, her peter pan book and a couple of other books.
Then she took out a couple of board games and the twister game. OK so they weren't technically hers, she'd borrowed them from the DG toy cupboard but no one would miss them. A couple of posters on the wall and the lava lamp that Grant, her mum's ex, had given her were the finishing touches. The room looked homely now.
Jody gazed around, pleased with her room, and then suddenly heard the front door bang downstairs. She raced downstairs. But her excitement turned to shock, when she saw her mum was not alone.

Kingsley what are you doing here?
That's no way to greet your brother
I said what are you doing here?
Just visiting, its not a crime is it
Mum, he shouldn't be here. If social services found out...
Well they wont. He's only visiting.
Jody knew there was no point arguing. So she went into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of squash. Her hand shook as she picked up her glass, as fear and anxiety got the better of her. She gulped down her drink and then put on her best fake smile before walking back into the living room where Kingsley was slouched across the sofa, flicking through the tv channels. Kingsley stayed for dinner and then left. Jody hoped that would be the last she'd see of him for a while but she was wrong. He seemed to be round most days.
