A sound that I so desperately wanted to hear as I waited and waited till my mate got back. Troops were singing, chanting and joking around as they marched back into the palace barracks with my mate at the centre of it all.

When I saw her, my heart swelled as she smiled widely at me before jogging towards me. Surprising me, lifted me of my feet causing me too giggle as she wrapped me up in a warming bear hug. A small giggle left my lips before I was silenced by (Y/N)'s lips upon my own, causing me to melt into my mate's hold.

Her lips were tremendously soft and she was so gentle while she kissed me. It was those sort of kisses that caused my heart to skip a beat.

After a short while, (Y/N) pulled away, but still keeping the closeness by laying her forehead against my own, a smile spreading wide upon my face.

"I told you I'd come home..." She husked lowly, goosebumps rising upon my airman and the back of my neck at the raw rasp of her voice.

My hands were gently caressing the back of (Y/N)'s neck whilst my arms were loosely wrapped round her arms.

"Shut up." (Y/N)'s low chuckle vibrated from her chest, causing me to purr slightly at how warming the sound was to my ears.

"I'd like you to come with me down to the dungeons. There's a rebel that we've caught who I think you'd have better chances of getting a cohesive answer from her." The tone from my mate made me frown. She sounded so stressed, making my heart to strain painfully at the thought of my mate being in any sort of discomfort.

"Of course. Why? What's wrong?"

"She keeps saying she won't have a conversation with somebody who isn't of 'pure blood'." A small growl came from (Y/N)'s mouth and I couldn't help but notice how her eyes started to glow her beautiful gold colour. Running my hands through her hair in attempt to calm her, I watched as how (Y/N) closed her eyes, taking a couple of deep breaths before reopening her eyes to reveal her alluring (Y/E/C). "Obviously, she wants to talk to someone who is a vampire at birth."

I nodded my head slowly, absorbing the information (Y/N) had told me. "Very well. What time do you want to see her." I asked.

"In the next hour. We could go and do it now but I'd rather have a shower and prepare myself mentally." The small chuckle erupted from my mate's mouth. However, a wide smirk was plastered on my face.

"You mind if I join?" My mate retaliated with a smirk of her own.

"When do you not?"

An hour of luxurious water running down my mate and I had passed the time very well. That's in my opinion of course. Clad in a tightly fitted black dress, (Y/N) and I were making our way down to the dungeons.

Something about the journey down made me sick to my stomach. It was as if I was retracing my steps to when my mate was locked away in these walls. Swallowing harshly, I shook away the feeling once I saw (Y/N) stop outside a steel door.

It seemed to have claw marks even on the outside of the room itself. (Y/N) took a deep breath before looking down towards me, flashing me a small smile.

"You ready?" She husked lowly yet gently. Taking a deep breath of my own, I nodded swiftly.

Once (Y/N) saw me nod, she once again mentally prepared herself before opening up what seemed to be a heavy cranky steel door. Peering into the room, I noticed a chocolate skinned woman, probably around my age, chained to the wall opposite my mate and I.

"You said you wouldn't speak to anybody who wasn't of pure blood. So, I brought somebody who was." I took that as my cue to step out of (Y/N)'s shadow, presenting myself clearly towards the woman.

Her skin was flawless and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. Striking brown eyes definitely put my green ones for a run for their money. I noticed how her lip was cracked and bloodied, obviously from the fight before hand. Her t-shirt and jeans were ripped in certain places, revealing her toned figure.

There was a tense silence between the two of us. I couldn't help but cough, uncomfortable that I was forced into this situation.

"I've heard that you've given my mate a little bit of trouble." I spoke with manner yet firm within my purpose of being here.

"You know, I need to ask you some questions..." I paused, waiting for her to fill in her name for me.

"Normani..." Her voice was rasp and quiet, but still! It was a start.

"Well Normani...why's you join this rebellion?" I asked with every ounce of intrigue I had within me, studying the girl across from me as I took a seat within the room.

"A hybrid shouldn't rule over all supernaturals. It's like hybrids know what it's like to be one of us even though they'll never experience the full thing. Why should I listen to a queen who only sees half the picture of what it is to be a Vampire." Normani hissed towards my mate, causing my own vampire half to rumble her own hiss within my throat.

Clearing my throat slightly, I closed my eyes to calm myself slightly.

"You see, what Queen (Y/N) is trying to do is bring unity between our kind. Her being a hybrid can hopefully do just that. Her being half of the species that despise each other and I, a vampire, her mate can make people realise that we don't have to fight anymore."

Normani was quiet for a moment. Taking yet another deep breath, I let a sigh I didn't realise I was holding.

"She's trying to be the bridge to our kind and hers."
