A short story about a boy and a spirit that I wrote for my sister's essay competition. Since english isn't my native language, please pardon my grammar mistake.

“I promise you that I will come running to you someday after I graduated. So stop crying and man up.”

Ringgg!!

A loud sound suddenly appeared out of nowhere, interrupting my dream. I opened my eyes slowly, and the white ceiling greeted me first in the morning.

A dream? I woke up, taking a glance at a figure covered with grey blanket.
I recalled his request after he saved me, “Help me to find the one who killed me.”

The one who slept covered with blanket, was not a human. A spirit, named Christopher, was a man who saved me from bad guys who I encountered with three days ago. The bad guys asked me for the money, but I refused to do so. I nearly got hit by them, fortunately Christopher saved me. Nobody could see him when he hit them with one blow. I could see him because I knew spirit did exist.
He studied at Oxford University in England. To make it simple, I was here in England now to help him finding his killer. Such a cruel reality, I pondered over Christopher’s murder’s story.

“Are you okay?” Christopher rubbed his eyes while asking me. Maybe he noticed how much I sweat over my dream.

I gave a slight nod before I scooted down the bed and went to the bathroom to hit a shower. I felt refreshed after I got my shower. When I went out from the bathroom, Christopher had been disappeared already. I knew where I should go first. Hearing Christopher’s story before, he studied at Oxford’s University, had a girlfriend named Evelyn Wattson and a close friend, Ryan Mc Courney. It was not too hard to find them when Christopher already knew their whereabouts. Duh, he was a spirit, remember?
I decided to buy light food for breakfast before I went there. I used map app to go to Christopher’s university. According to him, the university was not too far from his apartment. Sometimes his close friend would fetch him. I walked for few minutes, and finally arrived there.

I ran toward the gate, but I could not enter it because I was not a student. So I tried to say I was a cousin of Evelyn Wattson, which was basically a lie. The guard trusted me and gave permission for me to enter the university. Jackpot! I continued my mission to search for Evelyn first. As to what I recalled, she was in the same course as Christopher, fine art students. Meanwhile, Ryan was an Economic and Social History’s student.

The campus was so big I think I might lose. I wandered around the campus, went to three different faculty to search for their classes. Then I tried asking the students around the faculty but none of them knew Evelyn and Ryan as they were both senior. I think I asked their juniors, unfortunately.

I glanced at the bench nearer the Fine Art’s Faculty; it would not hurt if I took a break for a while. As I finally sat on the bench, a blonde girl also sat beside me.

“Hello there.”

I looked at her bewilderment. Was she talking to me? Dubiously I asked, “Yes? Are you talking to me?”

She flashed her gentle smile, nodding as she makes her posture comfortable. “Yes I do. Someone told me that a boy around 16 years old was looking for me. I am sure you are that boy, am I right?” I widened my eyes before stating, “Evelyn Wattson?” She nodded gently.

She asked me the reason why I knew her, and of course I just blurted out what Christopher told me. I lied to her saying that I am his cousin, and I asked her relationship with him. Whenever she spoke his name, she began to shed tears.

“I recalled the night I heard his death news at my house, Ryan was the one who called me. He was the one who found Christopher’s body hanging upside down. I’m not sure why he committed suicide. We have never been in a serious fight-”
