Moi picked up the duck from the stream behind her house and carried it to the washboard. She bathed the duck, careful not to wash the note off his yellow, bulging back. After his bath, she placed the duck back in the water, reading the note one last time. "Be kind to this duck, be kind to yourself, and be kind to others."
