[Y/N Pov]
It was an exciting, tiring, yet peaceful day. We had a field trip, and I always looked forward to them. No class, long bus rides, hanging out with friends, it was always a blast. I can't count how many times I laughed, but I think if I did I'd probably be so stressed with remembering the number that I wouldn't enjoy myself.
"Y/N?" Clem asked, a look of concern in her worrisome eyes. Oh Clem, she was such a great friend. Always looking out for me, smiling through it all even if it hurt. I had to give her credit for that, seeing as I wasn't so good at looking or acting strong. Hell, I'd call myself weak. Me and Clem met about 2 months ago, but it will be a day to remember. It was the first day we'd ever talked, in Social Studies, but we got along so quickly. We laughed so hard we could hardly breathe that day. It was so fun, I'll always remember it. She was very quick to get adjusted to, from her caring eyes to her "innocent" sense of humor. Notice I put quotes around innocent, she tried to hide how dirty her humor could be. But she was such a good friend that I'm glad to have.
"Yeah?" I reply softly, taking my headphones out of my ears carefully for a moment so I could hear her. I didn't wanna be rude.
"You okay? You seem quieter than usual."
"Yeah, I'm 'aight. Just get caught up in my music sometimes, y'know?" I say confidently, turning to face the window and putting my ear buds back in. I leaned my head against the window. Oh how I dreaded school, I thought.
I could hear my now snorting friend laughing through my headphones. These headphones were expensive, what could she possibly be laughing about so loudly that I can hear her through my headphones? I turned to the side, and saw a boy sitting across from her. Oh, that kid, I thought. He was the quiet kid, always had headphones in during class. He hid it through his hood in his hoodies, teachers never noticed. I swear that kid had good fucking luck because I'd always get caught listening to music during directions. He had dirty blond hair, some of it dragging in front of his face. He was laughing, leaning backwards in his seat a few times to catch his breath. I couldn't hear what they were laughing about, but hell, it was hilarious watching their faces and reactions without actually hearing what they were talking about. It was a challenge not to chuckle a bit at it. I swear, it was weird to see that kid laughing or smiling, I'd never heard him speak, laugh, or even smile. Not once. Finally, the suspense was killing me. I took my headphones out.
"Oh, Y/N!" Clem said, leaning back into me. "I CAN'T FUCKING BREATHE!" She screeched, laughing and struggling to catch her breath. I noticed her face start to get red, even purple. She ACTUALLY couldn't breathe. I nudged her.
"Holy shit, Clem?!" I yelled, holding her shoulder. She finally caught her breath and it went dead silent after that. It was awkward and discomforting. It really scared the shit out of me.

But, then again. Before I knew it they were both laughing up a storm again as the bus drove up rocky roads, bouncing a bit. It annoyed the shit out of me. I noticed Clem nudging me, how long was I stuck in my own thoughts?
"Huh?" I ask, taking my headphones out again to listen.
"Cmon, have a little fun while we're here, kay? We never do anything like this, just try to enjoy yourself, please?" She aske-actually, begged.
"Oh, whatever," I say, rolling my eyes. I grab my headphones but she stops me.
"Cmon, Y/N. I'm actually not joking." Not joking? What a shocker. She's always messing around, barely ever serious. I look at her seriously, but she doesn't crack a smile or a laugh. Yep, she's serious. Oh well, knowing Clem she'll beg until she gets her way.
"Fine."
"So, Y/N, this is Gus. Gus, this is Y/N," Clem says, smiling. She seemed happy to be introducing me to him. I smiled to be kind, and waved a bit. He shot a smile back, and waved.
"Hey," he said quietly, but not too quiet for me to miss.
"Hey."
Oh hell, before I knew it we were all laughing together. Now I couldn't breathe, it was hilarious. He was really funny, and Clem seemed happier than usual.
"One sec," Clem says to Gus. He nods.
"Well," Clem says, waiting for a response. I simply look at her with a confused look on my face. What did she want? "Y/N! Aren't you gonna say anything to him other than "hey"?" She whispered, impatiently.
"Umm...I thought you knew by now that it's hard for me to talk to people. I'm just naturally a shy person," I say quietly. "Plus, what do I even say? And why do you want me talking to him so bad anyways?"
"Y/N, you're my best friend. I know it's hard for you to talk to people, but I'm trying to help you make a new friend. You guys are like exactly the same! You should at least try to be friends with him. It'd be good for you, I'm you're best friend, you know I'd never lie to you about these things."
Ugh, I guess she was right. She DID know what was right for me, she was like my mother. Always wanting what's best for me. I nodded in agreement. "Fine, but...it's awkward," I say under my breath.
"Of course it is," Clem says. "I'll help."
