Not today

As they reached the top of a hill, V looked across the green landscape before him. It was so beautiful, so much more beautiful than the stark clinical world he was used to. There were trees, real trees, not fake communication towers decorated like trees. He looked down at the grass which was beneath his feet. He bent down and touched it with his hands, not remembering the last time he had ever done that. Natalie looked at him and smiled. "I bet you want to take your shoes off and feel what its like to have it prickle your toes," Natalie said. V looked up hopefully at her. "We don't have time," she said "They'll be coming. We have to keep moving." V stood up feeling disappointed, although he had no memory of what it was like to walk barefoot on grass. So many little pleasures forgotten in a world full of distractions. "Where are we going," he asked his dream girl. She pointed off to the distant horizon. " Over there," she answered.

V looked, squinted his eyes, trying to see where she was pointing. "What's over there?" He asked. Natalie shook her head, that sweet smile of hers again cutting across her face. "They should have named you Q, not V."

"Why?" He asked puzzled. " All the questions, you ask," she said "Now come, it's almost nightfall." V looked as she made her way down the other side of the hill they had climbed.

Nightfall, V thought as he followed her. Would there be stars he wondered. Real stars? They had stars in the Dome, when it was fake night. But they weren't real living stars. Just an effect. A light display of sorts. In the beginning they did use the formations of the real stars, but lately they've just been creating pretty patterns. Pretty patterns of lights in the sky. Living stars, V thought to himself. They had told him that stars were so far away that by the time we saw them on earth, they were dead. Mere reflections throwing their light, before they died. He wondered if that was true. In recent times it had came to light that so many things people thought were facts, what people thought was reality, was in fact mostly a lie, mostly fabricate truths to make people do and act the way the others wanted them to. Finding this truth was one of the main reasons V joined BTS. BTS and their worldwide ARMY, was one of the few remaining hopes of saving humanity. Of saving the world!

V loved the smell of nature. They tried so much to replicate and copy things from the real world to help the delusion people were living in the Dome. but you can never beat the real thing. It did fool many though, most. The Dome was so big that most believed it was all there is to the world. The world is only what it is presented to be. There is nothing more, there is nothing beyond. Only those who have woke realised there is more. Realised that they are more than merely puppets dancing to a master's tune. Many could not even feel the strings anymore, did not realise that they had, that they have a choice. Financial stresses, ill- health, unjust rules and laws, propagated hatred, corruption and hardships tugging them in all directions, but the one that matters most.  People became so overwhelmed with distractions that they forgot what true freedom is, what freedom means. That freedom is unconditional. That freedom is love.

"Stop!" Natalie called and ducked down behind a tree. Holding it as she looked around. V ducked down next to her, their hands touched on the bark of the tree as he did so.. "What is it?" he whispered, another question. She raised her right index finger to her lips. V nodded. She smiled even though she was afraid. Their hands were still touching. She looked at his index finger overlapping her pinky finger as if it was protecting it. His hands were bigger than she had thought they would be. Soft to the touch. Soft and warm. She didn't want to move her hand. Wished she could hold that feeling of them touching forever. V had always been her bias and now she was her with him. She couldn't believe it. She was afraid, but also happy and excited  to be sharing any moment in time with him, even if it was this one. Even if they were to die today. At least she had this one single moment with him.

There was a loud crashing sound coming towards them. Distress filled her eyes as she looked into his. V now took her hand in his and led her away and to the right from where the destructive sound was coming. He instinctively knew where to go. He was moving rapidly through the trees and she was following him now. Natalie had had a dream like this. They were in danger and V was saving her. He was her hero. Was this real she thought to herself, or am I dreaming. The sound came closer and closer. "They're catching up!" Natalie said "They're going to get us."  V looked back at her and shook his head. "Not today!" he said "Not today!"
