The King was once a kind man.
Well respected among his circle of friends.
He protected his own, was generous and loving.
His wife, the Queen, completed him.
She supported him in all that he did.
When the King was away, she would provide for the friends and family.
Their Hearts were pure, full of joy, incorruptible it seemed.
Being the King, he was in charge of their Army.
He led them into battle fearlessly, no matter the risk.
What everyone failed to see, was the toll that the horrors of war took on the King.
Slowly, his Heart began to flip, to darken, a spike run through it.
The King was aware of this, but chose not to stop it.
He would still lead and command like he always had.
But others began to notice this change too.
They noticed the Spade deeply rooted inside his Heart.
They noticed the monster he was becoming.
The King ignored them all, knowing that he was still alright on the inside.
He knew that no matter what, his Heart could not be fully corroded.
But his actions told another story.
He became violent, sometimes irrational.
He pushed everyone away, feeling like he could handle everything himself.
He sought out battles that he didn't necessarily need to take.
The Queen became worried. Everyone became worried.
But no one could do anything without being pushed away by the King.
Finally, the repercussions began to unfold.
The Queen became unhappy.
She left the King, not willing to be tore down in his blind-sightedness.
The Army became smaller in numbers, but those who stayed became more ruthless.
The King was attracting the likes of barbarians to fight for him.
The King accepted those who came around him, feeling that no one truly accepted him.
He felt betrayed.
He felt like those who he was once friends with didn't understand him anymore.
How could they?
The King did everything he could to protect their Hearts.
But how could they know that?
They couldn't. They just branded the King as a Monster.
A Monster who lost his Heart.
The King or Hearts fell.
The King of Spades rose.
