daniel's pov

everyone at school today has been talking about how ava cut herself and passed out. supposedly, her mother had driven her to the hospital and she remains there today. is this true? i am unsure. but i honestly do hope she is okay.

ava's pov

i startled awake to a blank white room. my stepmom gasped and ran over to my bedside to engulf me in a hug. she cried into my shoulder for a few seconds before lifting her head to meet our eyes. hers were filled with pity and anger. she placed her hands on my cheeks, searching for a reason possibly hidden in my face.

"why?" her voice faint and hurt. i suddenly felt a wave of anger, too. how come she just now cared?

"a better question would be why you just now caring?!" i raised my voice. she looked take aback, but i didnt feel bad.

"i will not tolerate you being like this! i'll have you notice what i go through just to keep you in our house-hold. your father would much rather prefer to get rid of you!" she fumed. now i was the one who was taken aback.

"r-really?" though, i wasn't fully surprised. he was abusive and i'd much rather leave him then be stuck in the same house. but not once has it crossed my mind that my stepmom would come to be caring.

"yes! and when i told him that you are a great daughter and he shouldn't just be dumping you on the street, as shouldn't do to anyone, and you know what he did?" she paused to let me shake my head. "he punched me! square in the jaw. that explains the day i left. i didnt want to be near him."

"I-i didn't know that I'm so sorry" I spoke with obvious empathy.

"I just didn't want anything else to happen to you, I really wanted to be like a new mom" she said, tears forming in her eyes.

"We will fix it. Or atleast try." I said trying to hold back mine"
