Halfway across the room, raven-coloured hair, jet-black jacket, a chain hanging from his pockets even the way he fiddles with his pen was interesting to me. Above all his sapphire eyes were so captivating it’s almost like he’s staring into your soul. Wait is he looking at me? No darn it. I diverted my attention back to today’s lesson Algebra. As if being an average-C student wasn’t enough I’m now seemingly interested in staring at guys.
“Miss Hill, would you like to solve this equation?”
I looked up to realised Mr Stinson was standing in front of me. Anna, my best friend was signalling something to me from a few desks away a few moments ago but I was too distracted to notice and guessed I paid the price.
“Sorry sir…”
“Well I have you know young ma’am if this happens again I won’t let you off easy, now then students review last night chapter for tomorrows lesson and class’s dismiss”
As everyone was dash off from class, before I had a chance to leave Mr Stinson stopped me. Was I in trouble?
“Except you Miss Hill, I won’t accept such behaviour in my class so I have an extra assignment for you”
I gulped I wasn’t the one who did get into this sort of trouble but the thing is it was my fault in the first place so I couldn’t well complain.
“Yes sir”
And so marks the end of the worst day of school yet in Indigo Saints Academy. First I got mesmerised by a guy in the back of class and I got extra assignments from my Algebra teacher, a perfect day indeed. Then I walked out to the doors to catch my ride home. Along the way to the front gates that boy was there seated on a bench meters away from where I was standing. I glance the other way hoping he doesn’t realise I was in a way stalking him. Despite my head in the other direction I sort of felt his stare from behind.
“JENNIFER! You coming or what?!” yelled Anna from her dad’s car.
Great I totally forgot I had a study session with Anna, she’s sure a friend you can count on when you’re a slacker.
“I’m coming!” I yelled back and zoom towards the vehicle.
The day passed quickly and it was already dusk, I packed up my things to leave until Anna stopped me. She seems worried and pointed towards a section in the newspaper. I really hope it wasn’t just another hate against the mayor or government type of clique news except it wasn’t.
Headline news of strange deaths among livestock, it seems a kind of vampire-creature had been killing a lot cattle, sheep and any other livestock. Local authorities are concerned if this might go on to a more extreme situation.
I merely sighed on the lame ridiculous things news published these days but Anna wasn’t too sure to let our guard down. Anna had this weird thing about mythologies and paranormal stuff, once there was a full moon and she kept blabbering about how werewolves will come out and kills us all in our sleep so she handily gave me a silver-plated cross necklace to protect myself. I knew she takes things too far but I don’t mind she’s a decent girl once you get to know her.
“Okay, I’m going now bye Anna”
“Wait, why don’t you stay for the night Jenny, it’s dark out and it’s risky to go out on your own not with the news of this vampire-creature roaming loose”
“I’ll be fine okay this thing is only after four-legged livestock”
“Yea… but”
“Alright I really need to go now bye!”
Without a second thought, I walked out the door and started on my way home. Anna tried to call me back but I was fine and it was only a few blocks from home. I promised I’ll call her later when I reach safely, she sure acts paranoid I give you that. Surprisingly I didn’t go home right away instead decided to take a stroll in the town’s park. Looked safe enough and the crescent moon was beautiful that night, after a short walk I suddenly heard a loud roaring sound in the distance.
“What the heck?”
I uttered and followed the sound, behind the bushes I was hiding. I should have went home or stayed like Anna told me too. That black figure in the distance it was at least 6 feet tall and it had sharp nails. It was gorging itself with a cat. Disgusting yes but worst terrifying I was too stunned to move looking at it sucking blood out of the helpless creature almost made me throw up. Wrong move I step back and stepped on a twig, the small crack was enough to startle the creature. Its eyes glare into mine those bright blue eyes. Before I knew it I fainted.
The next morning, I found myself in a hospital bed with Anna next to me on a chair sleeping. She must have been here all night, poor girl. She soon woke up and begins the scolding for my foolish act. In the end, she was glad I was alright I never knew how she became my best friend in the first place I’m could be lucky maybe. Anna soon began her questioning section yikes I’m screwed.
“Did you see it?!”
“See what?”
“The thing the one that news been telling well did you see it?!”
“Well… I don’t know maybe I was just hallucinating so it must be a mistake”
“Aww really maybe it could be a real vampire like Dracula, I need to get my mythology book and prevention phases”
Everything I saw last night it was only a dark figure but his eyes, those blue eyes remembering it send chills down my spine. I didn’t want to tell her the truth feeling she might go berserk with her whole mythological stuff again so I just kept quiet as she continues complaining. After a few test runs, the doctors finally said I was strong enough to leave and thank god too I’ve one too many things to worry about for one day. Leaving the hospital with my best friend felt great and promising I won’t do anything like that ever again. Both of us went out for smoothies at a local café, we were so deep in our conversation Anna brought something up that caught my attention.
“Hey Jennifer have you ever notice that new guy that’s been around”
“Yea the one who always in the back of the class who is he?”
“His name is Xander Blaze and apparently he’s arrived in our school just a few months ago, don’t you think that’s suspicious?”
“What is?” I asked while slurping my drink.
“Come on Jenny, think about it the news of this being that’s been killing off our livestock, the fact that none of this have started until he arrived it can’t be a mere coincidence”
“Well it could you know besides he’s probably just felt like an outcast I know how that feels when you’re in a new environment”
“Hmm he lives in the most isolate part of town what do you think of that?”
“Well his parents could have wanted some privacy ever thought of that? And have you been doing unpermitted stalking again?”
“Hey, people should be thanking me we could be saved from this freak shows”
“Whatever… Come on, let’s go, got lots of work to do!”
“Fine hey wait for me!”
I ran out the door trying with Anna chasing me from behind. Well this is a weird start but I still have plenty of time before nightfall or so I hope.
