The Book Room Catastrophe

Yugi's POV

It was a Friday afternoon, school was almost over and Spring break was about to begin. I couldn't wait, more time to spend with my friends. Unfortunately there was one more thing I had to do after school, ugh 3 more hours to go. Then an hour of sorting out books and putting them back in the book room, why me. "Yugi, earth to Yugi" Jonouchi said waving a hand in front of my face. "Huh?" I questioned. "We've been trying to get your attention for the last 4 minutes, you were zoning out" Anzu replied. "Oh, sorry I was just thinking about why I have to be the one to collect everyone's books and put them in the book room, I'm at a major disadvantage because I'm too small" I complained. "Ya, that doesn't seem fair, anyway see you later" Honda said as the three of them left to go home. I quickly went about grabbing the books that everyone left on their desks and carried them to the book room. Half way through putting the books in their proper place I heard footsteps 'no one is supposed to be here but me' I thought worried. *I'm sure it's just a small animal that got in* Yami tried to reassure me. "Ya maybe you're right, nothing to worry about at all" I responded hoping whatever it was would think I'm crazy for talking to no one and scare them off. It seemed to have worked, for the next 10 minutes nothing happened. Suddenly I heard the footsteps again, this time closer. 'There's no way this thing is an animal, it's definitely another person' I thought more frightened than before. "Who's there?" I asked shaking. No response 'maybe I'm just going crazy' I thought trying to calm down. Suddenly the three bookshelves behind began to topple one another, I had no time to respond as the bookshelves crashed down on me. I managed to toss my puzzle out of the isle before I was crushed under the bookshelves. 'If my friends notice me missing they'll know where I am and at least Yami is safe' I thought before blacking out.

Anzu's POV

It's been 4 hours since we left school and so we decided to go visit Yugi, he should be home by now. The three of us walked into the game shop and headed over to Yugi's grandpa "hi, is Yugi home?" I asked. "No, he hasn't come home yet. I thought he was with you" Mr. Motou said. Suddenly I had a bad feeling something had happened to little Yugi "come on, I think I know where he is" I shouted running out the door and towards the school, the two boys tailing behind me. "Where is he Anzu?" Honda asked. "If my hunch is correct then he's in the book room" I yelled to them as I crashed through the door. This awful feeling was getting stronger, I ran so fast to the book room that I nearly slid past it. I yanked open the door and was horrified by what I saw, a whole row of bookshelves had been knocked over and to the side of the scene was Yugi's puzzle but no sign of Yugi. I cautiously walked over to the fallen bookshelves and carefully lifted them back up one by one. Once I reached the third shelf I saw Yugi lying on the floor buried under the books. "YUGI" I screamed panicked. I carefully unburied him but didn't want to risk moving him incase he had a head injury. "Jonouchi, call an ambulance now" I commanded my friend.

[10 minutes later]

The paramedics arrived and took Yugi to the hospital. I picked up the puzzle looking at it sadly. Poor Yami could only watch as his partner was crushed under the bookshelves, I could only imagine how painful that must have been. I could feel his sadness radiating from the puzzle, it was heartbreaking. Once I knew no one could hear me I tried to comfort Yami "I'm sorry Yami, we should have never left Yugi here alone, we should have known better. The strong always target the weak. Yugi will be alright, he always manages to somehow bounce back from anything, I'll be there for him next time, I promise" I said before leaving to the hospital.

[2 weeks later]

"I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt, you should still listen to the doctor and take it easy for 2 more weeks though" I said gently placing a sleepy Yugi into his bed. He yawned 'maybe Kaiba was right, he is like an adorable little kitten' I thought as I covered him with the blanket. I placed his puzzle on the nightstand before heading home.
