April 21st. 1922. Kansas.

Jane sat up in bed, her whole body trembling as she glanced at the midwifes arms. A bundle of blankets in her arms and with Jane's blurry vision she could faintly see her child. The midwife placing them into Jane's arms gently and smiling at the blonde woman.

"Its a boy"

"A boy" Jane echoed and looked down at her son, his eyes where closed and he was sucking on a few of his fingers while making small whimpering noises, he had a head full of dark thick hair and Jane's head rolled back onto the pillows, smiling at her husband David.

"He looks just like you" She whispered hoarsely and David nodded, looking down at his son,

"Big baby" David said thoughtfully, "Means he'll be a big strong man...could use a hunting partner like that"

"Don't talk like that" Jane pleaded, "You promised. You promised you wouldn't hunt no more"

David's eyes narrowed at Jane before he smiled almost sickly sweet, "of course love, must've slipped my mind"

Jane smiled contently, leaning back and looking at her son, David muttering one more line,

"Name him William"

Jane just nodded complacently, brushing back her sons hair, "Oh William...my sweet little boy I love you" she whispered, pressing a kiss to her babies forehead, "I'll protect you. I promise I'll always protect you".
