My first idea of what the fuck i'm going to do is thinking of arenas. I go over them in my head and go over the survival tips in each one. We learn them in school just incase one of us will be choses to be a tribute, and in my case, that person is me. The first arenas that pops up in my head are ones with trees - forests, for example. Over there i can survive easily and i don't think i have to explain why. I remember the last two years had trees in them. Both people who won used this to their advantage. In just a couple of seconds after i reflect on my life and how i might possibly die, some of my family bursts in to talk to me. I can see my dad trying to hold in a river of tears but my mom full on cries and hugs me so tight its like she's trying to crush me to death. I don't see Jeremy or Lukas though.
"Where the hell did Lukas and Jeremy go?" I say.
"Jeremy had a panic attack so Lukas had to take care of him." My dad says. The tension in the room is getting sad and awkward, two of the worst things ever besides being in a fucking Hunger Games! "Listen James, don't throw away all of your years of learning. You can win and live in Victors Village if you want." He says. Its true. I do know how to survive. My dad works at a hydraulic power station, where i learned how to swim. I practiced in my gym class at dodge ball and recently i've been doing better at throwing when it comes to the execution of it all. Survival is i think my strong suit when i'm thrown in any arena . . . as long as its a natural biome, like a desert, forest, swamp, etc.
Me and my mom, who is a geologist, talk about every possible way under the fucking sun on how to survive in each biome. They quiz me on what to do in some sort of catastrophic disaster, and i'm good at answering them, but there's a few that i forgot. Finally, two Peacekeepers come in the room and take my mom and dad away, and my mom starts crying again. It must be a living fucking nightmare on worrying about your child being in a Hunger Games, and God help you if your child is about to be in one. That's why if i win this thing, i'll never even think about having kids, even if i have a wife to marry. My dad almost forgets but he gives me a silver ring with a tiny star on it. Its my district token. I wonder what Alice got.
Then, me and Alice are transported to a train with a crowd of citizens watching us. I get to catch a glimpse of her family before they walk around the corner of the Justice Building. I think i saw her older sister or her mom. They both look alike and i know she has them since i've seen both of them pick her up from school.
We get on the train and almost immediately i am taken by the beauty on whats inside it. Its like a miniature Capitol home. Theres a mahogany brown table with exotic food i'd never thought i'd see, a long, blue couch, a wide, flat screen TV, and a door that leads to another room.
"Well, c'mon you guys, take a seat and relax for a bit. We're on our way to the Capitol!" Adiar says. I can feel the train move now, and i notice we're going super fast. I take a seat on the couch with the other two. Adiar decides to ask, "Any ideas who's mentoring you two?" I really have no clue since i dont know who mentored who last year or the year before it.
"Uuhhh. . . . I dont really know since i only know Thorburn and the person who won before she did," i say, unconfidentlly.
"Well, i'll give you a list. Theres Gliese, Soren, Venture, and Thorburn right now, but one of you could win," Adiar replies. Adiar's upbeat, energetic personality gives me a false sense of hope that i might win. Maybe i might though. But chances are, they won't. But i wanna try so hard so i can make it back to my family. Its the only reason why i want to win this thing.
I see Venture getting bored so she says to the TV, "Toshiba, play the 20th Hunger Games," We both stare at her for a bit and she says, "Sorry for the interruption. I just wanted to watch a Hunger Games and i know how to work this thing since i have one have at home, " I can see the highlights that year play and i see Venture and some random boy get picked. You can see some of the other tributes get reaped but you can barley see them since the tribute is made for the winner, not the ones that didn't win. then, one of the train doors open and i see our mentor. Its Thorburn Chlodowech.
