I watched the clock on the wall wishing it’d just skip to closing time already, but with my luck it was just dragging time slowly. Sighing, I collected a rag from the back counter and began to clean the tables. Oh, I work at a small diner if you’re wondering. No one special comes by, just the town regulars. Mr. Smith was always here ordering the usual. A lonely man he was, poor thing. I was wiping down the last table when the bell to the door rang, indicating someone had stepped in, and I stood up to see a very familiar face walking through the door. He wasn’t familiar because he was a town regular or a friend or a relative in any matter, it was Niall Horan from my favorite band. One Direction. I froze in my place as I watched him look around and I finally snapped out of it when he rang the bell on the counter once. “Aye, babe, would you mind getting my order?” He shot me a charming smile, his braces beaming a bit, and I swear I forgot how to breathe. He raised an eyebrow “You alright?” He looked a bit confused and I thank whatever compelled me to speak. “Oh um, yes, how can I help you?” I stumbled to the back of the counter, gathering my notepad and a menu, and I mustered up my best smile while sliding the menu over to him. He was just like I imagined he would be. He was tall, smelled good, and most definitely charming. His icy blue eyes scanned the menu, smiling at the choices I assumed he fancied. He closed the menu and a small smirk decorated his face “Alright, are you ready for my order gorgeous?” I felt myself blush brightly and I blinked twice before muttering “G-gorgeous?” Niall’s head cocked slightly to one side and he nodded “Of course. I love your eyes.” He smiled and I felt like someone had kicked my feet from under me. That smile…”T-Thank you. They’re the same as like 80% of the world’s population.” Niall shook his head and he bit his lip as he stared into my eyes “Nah, your eyes have, um, a special glint to them.” My face felt hot and I tried to hide my smile, but I gave up and inhaled briefly “Right. Your order?” Niall chuckled under his breath. “Right, let me have 6 Burgers with fries and a large drink. Make it 2 cokes, 1 diet coke, and 2 Sprites. Also, give me six slices of the home made pie and um I think that should be all.” I finished writing it down when it came to me… They were all out there waiting for him. I handed the note to our cook and he got started on it right away. “So,” Niall started as he eyed my name tag “Y/N. Don’t get many guys like meself around here, eh?” I shook my head and he smiled “I didn’t think so.” I couldn’t believe I was having a casual conversation with him. All while debating of I should tell him that I know who he is or not “I’m not from around here.” Niall said, breaking me out of the inner debate I’d caught myself in. I pretended to be surprised “Really? I can tell. You sound like an Irishman.” His smile stunned me once more and his eyes lit up with the sound of his laugh “Ha, you got that right.” I scanned the diner and noticed everyone had left, meaning I had tables to clean. I collected the rag once more and stepped out into the dining area. Niall seemed amused by this “You’re much shorter than what you look behind the counter.” I felt myself blush at his comment and he raised a guilty hand “Not that its bad! It’s kind of cute, actually.” I smiled and went to collect the dishes from the tables and took them to the dishwasher “So what brought you here at these hours?” I asked trying to sound casual. Niall shrugged one shoulder “Mates and I just finished a gig in a city near by and we decided to get a bite before leaving. Y’know, to see what this town is made of.” He winked and my heart fluttered, but I forced myself to continue being casual. I knew how much they enjoyed being treated like normal people “A gig you say? You’re in a band?” I turned to face him and he nodded slightly “Yeah, well, kind of. We’re more of a ‘boy band’ as they call it here in the states. One Direction. Ever heard of us?” I shook my head, feeling a smirk on my face “Yeah I’ve heard your single on the radio a few times but I never knew what you guys looked like or who you even were. Nice to finally have a face to the name.” He smiled slightly as he played with the cash that was in his hand now “Yeah that’s us. We don’t get to go out like this on a regular basis. So I’m happy I could meet someone as interesting as you while I was here.” I raised and eyebrow and scoffed “Interesting?” He nodded and before anything else was said the cook rang the bell and I handed the food to him before ringing him up “That’ll be 46.90” He went through the cash and he gave me a fifty. I kept the fifty in my hand as I handed him his change and he smiled “Thanks, love. You have yourself a lovely night. Oh, and don’t hesitate.” I cocked my head “Hesitate?” He flashed me a smile before he walked out and eyed my palm. I opened the fifty and there it was, his number scrawled on the bill. I smiled and my eyes nearly teared up. He gave me his number and told me not to hesitate. I watched him wave as they drove off and suddenly I didn’t hate work so much. At least not as much as I did before it got me Niall Horan’s number.
