Finding yourself in a place full of pagan gods is definetley where the Winchester brothers did not want to end up. Gabriel felt he had to intervien and thats what he did. Only he ended up going against his older brother.
Little did the Winchesters know Gabriel was planning something. Something that could get him out of this mess with his brothers, so he himself could be free from the burden, heaven and his father had put on his shoulders. Their shoulders. He loved his brothers more than anything but he couldn't stand to be the one in the middle of everything. He wanted to dissappear. So thats what he did.
Helping Sam and Dean escape, Gabriel had the perfect plan he would distract Lucifer. He would fight against him. Sending Lucifer flying through the meeting room doors. "Luci, I'm home." He cooed. Lucifer got himself up and almost charged at his younger brother. Gabriel held up his sword as his older brother stood in front of him, "Not this time." Keeping his eyes on Luci he helped up Kali and shouted for the Winchesters to help.
Sam's mind was running a mile a minute and seeing Gabriel hold the goddess Kali in his arms like that spiked some sort of emotion in him he'd felt only a few times before. Getting up just as Gabriel ordered them to get Kali out of there he took a look at Gabriel and nearly whimpered at the look Gabriel had given them, the look that said 'I'm not getting out of this alive', he knew that look well. He knew Gabe would protect them but all he wanted was to keep the Archangel safe also. Not hearing anything but his own heart in his chest he walked out as quickly as possible with Dean and Kali.
Gabriel got them out of the door just as Lucifer had said "I hope you didn't catch anything."
"Lucifer you are my brother and I love you but you're a great big bag of d**ks" Gabriel had made a switch as he hid from view allowing his images form and interact with his brother he knew if he left he'd be done for as the projections could only last while he was in the room. He allowed the projection to talk for him saying everything he could not to his older brother.
The conversation went on and he allowed even his death to happen, he'd seen alot of angels die to know what happened. He knew the Winchesters had gotten out safely, he was thankful for that but he hated knowing he would never see them again. Seeing the youngest Winchester again....
"Gabriel if you are doing this for Michael I-"
"Screw him, if he was here I'd shiv his ass too." Something he'd meant they fought and it would be like knocking their heads together.
Once Luci began talking about loyalty Gabriel, his real self, zoned out allowing a sentence to come in here and there when the time came his 'death' was swift. He waited until Lucifer disappeared to clear up. He knew this would happen and it was for the best.

Sam felt distraught after he'd realised Gabriel had died, he never knew how much it would affect him due to having a love/hate relationship to him because of how he'd treated them. Sam drank his weight in liquor, drowning his sorrows in a bottle of Jack, only it made the pain dull he still couldn't forget how much it hurt. He'd cry almost every time a drink went down his throat, Dean didn't take much pity on his brother as he went to a bar and gave the angel his own rememberance. Sam's eyes closed slightly only to widen as his vision played a sweet but horrible trick or treat? Gabriel stood in front of him looking slightly amused. "Sam stop." Gabe stated slightly upset. He wondered why Sam was drowning his sorrows like he was. Did Sam have feelings for him? All these questions were ones he needed answers too. Of course he played tricks on them but he always made sure Sam wasn't the slightest bit hurt except for that one time in television land.... He had meant for them to understand Sam more than anybody and he wasn't good with his feelings.
"Gabe how are you even alive?" Sam slurred tears welling in his eyes.
"Sammy I'm never coming back, I'm saying goodbye." Gabe replied only to see Sam passed out, he helped him to the bed and watched him sleep for a while as he wished he could stay.
The door being unlocked was the first thing that made the Angel disappear into the shadows. He had to think Sammy was his only thing that kept him from not allowing Luci to literally kill him. he wanted Sammy to himself and he will in time.... "Brother." A voice he'd heard so many times shook him from his thoughts. Castiel.
"Cas..."
"No need to answer brother I know why and I know he needs you even if he doesn't say so." Castiel being so closed up in his shell shocked Gabe he'd actually said something heartfelt.
Gabe nodded and went back to Sammy only to hear Dean and him arguing. "So what?! He saved us doesn't mean you can drink yourself into oblivion Sammy, it aint that easy! We say thanks and to toast their lives then we move on!"
"You don't know how I feel Dean, I-I..."
"You what Sammy? Love him of course you do, I knew it and its hit you like a rock same as Jess"
"Dont you bring her into this she didn't deserve that!" Suddenly Sam had walked, more swayed out of the door and right into the waiting arms of Gabe.
Sammy had passed out and Gabe had taken him somewhere so they could talk. He felt a little guilty like he'd kidnapped him.
Sammy groaned as he woke a few hours later. He'd never drank that much before and he wasn't entirely sure if he was drunk or sober but sat next to him was the one who caused the pain and hurt and love he felt. He suddenly hugged him realising he was sober enough to understand. It began to get awkward. He realised Gabe must have heard his arguement with his brother. "You heard huh?" Gabe nodded. "So how are you alive?"
"Faked it." Was Gabes simple reply. "Look Sammy about what you said-"
"I didn't mean it" Liar his mind screamed. Gabriel noticed this and pinned him against the bed he was on.
"Sammy stop lying." Gabe stated huskily as his lips crashed against Sam's, he pulled away to trail kisses down his neck and whispered in his ear "Trick or Treat Sam?"
