"Sal, come on!" I yelled to my little sister, urging her to run faster. "If you don't hurry up, I'll eat all the candy myself!" I giggled, knowing she would be VERY upset if I did.
"No! Stop it!! I can't run that fast Tyler!" her pouty, shrilled voice yelled back.
I turned a corner abruptly, hiding in an alleyway so I could spook my sister. I grinned mischeviously, waiting for her to pass.
     1... 2...
She should be passing by now...
     3... 4...
Sweat formed on my forehead. Sal?
     5!
I popped my head around the corner, searching for Sal. She wasn't there.
My pulse quickened, and I swiveled my head the other way, thinking of where to go. The store. She would have tried using a shortcut there so I didn't eat the candy. Right.
I started running there, feeling dread wash over me like a tidal wave. Is she here? Is she here?
I counted in my head, holding on to some sort of sanity with this.
     1.
     Is Sal here?
     2.
     I don't see her outside.
     3.
     Is Sal in here?
     4.
I'm here... she should be here...
     5 - SHE'S HERE!
I sighed, rushing to my little sister. She was picking out candies in the sweets' section. I hugged her tight.
"Ew, Tyler, no! Cooties!" she squealed, laughing. I chuckled. "Sorry Sal," I apologized, letting her go.
"Got everything you wanted?" I asked her.
     She nodded.
"Okay, let's go," I mumbled, swiveling my head quickly out of anxiousness. "Yay!"
