Black in Blue

Her reflection dark, in polished men's shoes,

Giving directions, trying not to confuse.

Radio in hand, smile on her face,

Fighting the hatred, her profession, her race.

A smash, a bicycle, a child's cry,

To help, to save and wonder why,

Man's impatience blinds their eyes.

The couple yelling in the flat above,

She asks herself, were they ever in love?

Like animals turned mad,

One big crazy farm,

She touches the stripes sewn on her arm.

Longing for her child, feeling alone,

She signs of duty, walks silently home.
