I grabbed a plate of fries and chicken. Then, I sat down at a vacant table. All my classes had went by slowly, and it was awfully quiet. I picked away at my fries.
"Hey..." I heard a familiar voice say. I looked up to see Kate, looking down at me with a apologetic look on her face. "Sorry about earlier."
I nodded. I honestly didn't mean to lash out at her like that. It's just... memories.
She sat down next me and sighed in relief. "We're good?" She asked.
I nodded again.
The frown on her face disappeared immediately. She hugged me tightly.
"Aah!" I squealed, trying to hold in the scream that was meant to come out.
"Oh sorry! She let go of me and sat back down. "I just got excited... Such a cute squeal..."
I sighed and shook my head.
Making progress, I guess.
I eventually finished my food, and got up to throw away my tray. Kate skipped along with me as I headed to the trash can.
"So, what do you wanna do now? We have, like, twenty minutes left." said Kate.
I thought for a moment. "I dunno."
"Well, we could go chill outside until they call all of us in."
"...Okay."
We headed outside and sat down on one of the benches on campus. It was quiet for a minute.
"Look!" Kate shouted, pointing to a cloud. I stared at it for a second.
"It looks like a star..." I said quietly.
"Mmm! So cute!" she giggled then smiled.
I nodded slightly.
I turned to see a black figure heading towards us.
What the hell?
I rubbed my eyes under my hoodie and looked again. It was getting closer.
No...
I grabbed Kate's hand and pulled her off of the bench. Kate glanced at me. I pulled her behind me as I backed away. The dark figure moved even closer.
"D-don't..." I started, but they began off the hood over their head.
Ace.
He stared at me for what seemed like hours. Kate looked down at the grass. The horrified look I had on my face wasn't very visible, but I was sure Ace had noticed.
And so, I walked away.
