When I was young, we used to live in a house that used to be a part of an asylum. Most of the buildings surrounding where knocked down and some where made into houses. My parents always felt that there was something else in the house, but would never say anything as friends would think that they were nuts, so they kept it to themselves.

Many unusual things happened, like doors not opening that were unlocked, hearing doors being opened and closed, funny smells, cold spots, voices and being tapped on the shoulder. The scariest thing for my mother was when she was telling me off for being naughty and something pushed her back onto the settee and said "leave her alone." Being frightened by this, my mum picked up me and my younger sister up and headed for the front door. We stayed outside until my father came home from work. My mum told him what had happened and said that she did not want to back into the house, but all he said was don't be silly and get back inside. Another time my mum was telling me off again and all of a sudden we heard something crashing up stairs in the bathroom. She opened the bathroom door and found that all glass jars that were full with bath salts and bath oils had been smashed. They didn't just fall on the floor below, they were hurled onto the wall on the other side of the room.

On another evening, I was asleep in bed and something woke me up. It felt like someone was stroking my head. I turned around, but nothing was there. Then I noticed something on the top of my wardrobe. It was a lady smiling at me. I wasn't scared because her face looked friendly and I just fell back to sleep. On other occasions, I would wake up giggling because she would be sitting at the end of my bed tickling my feet. When she would appear, you could only make out her face; her body was blurred. But one time she appeared she was very clear. I told my mum about about it, and my mum asked what was she wearing. I said she was wearing a long gray skirt with a big bodice-type belt, a white blouse with a small ruffle around the neck and cuffs; her hair was tied back into a high bun. She also had a chain that was attached to her belt with a huge bunch of keys. It sounds like she may have worked in the asylum when she was alive.
