Chapter 1:

4:00pm

Come on, come on!! I thought impatiently, silently starring at the clock on the wall. I'd been starring at the same clock for the past 10 minutes, though it felt more like an hour. I could feel myself getting more and more agitated the closer it got to 4:15, and this let itself be known to the witch in the room in the form of an incessant tapping.

Tap, tap, tap, tap

"Fynn?"

Tap, tap, tap, tap

"Fynn?"

Tap, tap, tap, tap

"Fynn!?"

I jolted, "yes Mrs Collins?"

"I know you're anxious to get home, but you don't need to continuously make that infernal racket!"

"Sorry Mrs Collins". I reply glumly and with some embarrassment.

"I assume through your distracted behaviour that you've finished the work set?" She asked impatiently over her wire rim glasses.

"Yes Mrs Collins. Can I leave early coz I've finished it?" I asked hopefully, desperate for any excuse to get out of this room a few minutes early.

"Nice try Mr Sayle, but your detention finishes at 4:15 and not a moment before. You know the rules. Now if you don't mind I've got more papers to grade and so I'd appreciate it if you'd keep the noise down while I work!" I could practically taste the annoyance coming from her as she spoke and tapped her red pen sharply on the desk. She turned to face her papers again, not even bothering to wait for a response from me as I sank down further into my chair, to wait, quietly, for 4:15 to arrive.

When 4:15 finally arrived, I was out that door and the schools front gates before the grumpy maths teacher could say anything.

My house was about 30 minutes walk away from the school and I'd normally be ok with that. But as I looked at the huge rain clouds hovering overhead, all I could do was curse and wish I'd remembered my coat this morning.

I got about half way home when the heavens opened and a freezing rain pelted me and any other poor sod caught outside. A steady string of curses were all I could think about as I kept my head down to shield my eyes as much as possible from the driving rain.

I never saw it coming.

As I passed by a movers van stationed by the side of the road, I heard the side door opening, felt strong hands grab my arms, pinning them to my sides and a sharp prick at the side of my neck as the cool, numbing liquid flooded my system. I didn't have enough time to struggle, let alone scream, before the drugs quickly took effect and I was out like a light.
