A piercing scream blasted through the night air, frightening the birds in the trees and startling the few people who were gathered around the front door of the victorian styled mansion waiting to enter and be the next to scream in fright at the terrors of the haunted house on Halloween night.

Three friends were messing about at the back of the line. One fairly tall boy with blonde curls falling into his blue eyes was creeping up behind the two girls he had came to the mansion with, bearing the fake vampire teeth he had received at admittance as the girls giggled and shrieked with pretend fear. He grabbed onto the arm of the shortest one and she gasped dramatically, eyes alight with laughter as she leaned away from the plastic teeth that were inching closer and closer to her neck.

“Hold still hold still!” The last girl laughed, fumbling in her pockets for her camera that she pulled out excitedly, capturing picture after picture of the vampire attack on her friend, “These are definitely going on facebook tonight!”

“They better be!” The shorter girl laughed, running a hand carefully through her flaming red hair, “I don’t want to have my blood sucked for nothing you know.”

“You enjoyed it,” The boy grinned and the girl smacked his shoulder. “I’m sorry I couldn’t feel that, probably because you could barely reach.”

“Hey! Mel, Aleric’s being mean!” The red haired girl pouted playfully, “I’m not that short.”

“No Ebony, you’re not that short,” Mel chuckled, “Just short enough that it’s fun to make fun of you.”

“Hey!”

Mel and Aleric laughed together as their friend pouted to herself. “Oh cheer up Ebony, it’s your first time coming to the mansion! You should be smiling!”

“I am smiling, see?” Ebony grinned at them and then hopped lightly in place, “Do you think it’s going to be really scary?”

Aleric chuckled, “I doubt it. It’s just a haunted mansion after all.”

Mel nodded her agreement, fiddling around with her camera, “Yeah it’s probably just going to be a bunch of lame tricks that are meant to scare us.”

Ebony frowned, “I heard they were supposed to have people... you know, jump out at us though.”

“Then kick them,” Mel suggested and Aleric laughed, “Don’t worry Eb, everything’ll be fine.”

“I’m not worried,” Ebony pouted again, but grinned widely when the line began to move. “It’s almost our turn!”

“It’s about time now,” Aleric nodded his approval and Mel flipped her camera open, the red light flashed beside the lense to show that it was filming.

“Everyone wave Hi!” Ebony and Aleric turned around and waved at the camera before Mel turned it around to face herself, “This is Mel here and we,” She pointed it back towards Ebony and Aleric, who seemed to be discussing the design of the building then back to herself, “Are headed to the ever famous Haunted Mansion of Kensington PEI. But we’re not scared right guys?”

She turned back to her friends and Ebony and Aleric nodded, “Not scared one bit!” Ebony chirped and Aleric rolled his eyes at her, everyone knew that Ebony was a big scaredy cat. Her own shadow could scare her on a good day.

“That’s the spirit Ebony!” Mel laughed and turned the camera up to capture the looming black and white mansion before them, “So bring it on Haunted Mansion!” Just as the words left her mouth another piercing scream caught the air and Mel shivered turning the camera back towards her friends.
