This was one of the many nicknames I had as a child, or at least from my mother. (Others being princess, babydoll, or flower child)
But the one I truly remember and identify with is moonchild. She called me this because of my love of the moon and stars. As a child, I thought the moon and stars were simply amazing. Along with the fact that when I would visit my grandfather, Monte, he would tell me stories that were honestly beautiful in my eyes. He would even weave tales about the moon and stars for me.
"When we pass, we become part of the night sky, either as part of the moon or a shimmering star in our own right."
Most of my family did call me moon child but when my mom and grandfather died, it became retired. The reason why is because my grandfather and Mom were the first to call me that. So now that name is just a faded memory to my family but I know somewhere deep inside of me, there is still the child they called moonchild.
Still the child who loved the stars.
Still the child who adored the moon.
Which is why I am moonchild.
