Klance~ Been a While

"Lance, look out!!" A voice screamed, while the roar of a ship came barreling right towards Lance's lion. He quickly managed to maneuver out of the way before the ship crashed into an asteroid nearby. Lance stopped for a second before hearing Keith's voice over the intercom. "Lance?! Lance do you copy are you ok?!" He flew over to Keith's red lion and responded, "all good here samurai, don't worry about me! Man was that guy close or what?! Almost blew up my lion. Except he failed to take out Voltron's best and fastest pilot." Lance bragged, noting how scared Keith sounded, all while trying to make him feel better.
Lance would never admit out loud, but he cared about Keith. Deeply. Putting him in a special place inside his heart, making him feel things he couldn't quite pin down. All the others groaned at his nagging, while reprimanding him to be more careful.
"Whatever Lance. Bragging isn't gonna save you from a high speed crash by a ship. You have to watch your surroundings more carefully. And don't call me samurai!" Keith yelled over the comm, to which Lance smirked and shot back, "awwwww! Can't stand losing your favorite blue paladin?" Keith blushed and stammered, "n- no! It's not that! I- just be more careful for gosh sakes or I'll come over there and kick your ass myself!" "Language!" Shiro reprimanded over the comm unit, to which everyone laughed.
Till shots were heard and Allura shouted that there were more of Zarkon's ships coming. Each paladin maneuvered their lion between each ship and firing back with power. Till only one remained and flew away from them. "Yeah you'd better run! Haha look at him go!" Pidge cheered. For a second all was joyful till out of the corner of his eye, Keith spotted the retreating ship coming back at full speed. And locked on Lance's lion. They aimed to end him.
Shiro shouted, "Lance move!!" And time seemed to slow down as Keith went soaring in his direction. Keith, had a great crush on Lance, but never chose to act on it with all the women he flirted with. But regardless of all that, he was his friend, family and love of his life. And Keith made it his top priority to keep him safe. Even if it cost Keith his own life.
The others watched in shock as Keith used his lion to push Lance's out of the way, just in time as the oncoming ship rammed right into him. Creating a fiery explosion and sending the red lion tumbling through space.
All Lance could hear was Keith's scream as he saw the two ships make impact. Then the comm went out. And Lance yelled in horror as his lion was torn up and tumbled out into space. "KEITH!!!!!"
Keith heard Lance call his name as he closed his eyes and whispered, "I'm sorry Lance.........I love you" then all went black.

Le timeskip~
The team piloted their lions back to the ship. And each got out one by one, just staring at one another, slowly trying to process what had just happened. That their most loved member, their sibling, their best friend. Was gone. Keith...was gone.
Lance stepped out of his lion and immediately fell to his knees in tears, as Allura ran to him and Lance latched onto her tightly, sobbing his heart out.
"It should have been me...it should have been me..it should have been me!!" He cried. Allura had tears streaming silently down her own face as she held the crying sharpshooter. "I know Lance, but he sacrificed himself for you-" "It shouldn't have been him! I- I promised myself I'd protect him in anyway I could, I'd have his back!! Allura I- I loved him......I loved him."
Lance sobbed, one could practically hear his heart break as he cried. Hunk shed silent tears while Pidge cried in his chest. While Shiro stood head down as he fought back the tears that blurred his sight, fists clenched. And Coran stood beside the torn and to be repaired red lion, fighting back tears himself.
As Lance fell apart on the floor and all stared at the open cockpit of the red lion, the chair in which it's pilot resided....empty.
