A/N: Hey, after being away from Wattpad for so long, I finally decided to come back and write some stories. I'm planning to update this one chapter a day, but I am not guaranteeing that I will be able to do that. Anyway, thanks for reading, please let me know what you think so far :)

I nearly shout in excitement when the school bell rings.

Finally, it's lunch time. Only 3 more hours until the end of the day.

I pack up my binder and pencils and follow the rest of the students out into the hallway. I quickly head straight to my locker, where I put away my supplies and grab my lunch. I've been hungry since the start of 2nd period, so I cannot wait to sit down with my best friend Alyssa and eat.

It's Friday, which means three things. First, it means that tomorrow is the weekend. I'm so excited, I have plans with Alyssa to see the new Christmas comedy. Second, it means that school is almost out for Christmas break. It's currently the 12th, and school is done on the 17th. The third is one that I'm not as excited about. Tonight I have to go with my mom to her office's Christmas party.

My mom works as the receptionist at the New York branch office of Staples. Every year her coworkers celebrate Christmas by throwing a huge party, each year having a different theme. This year is centering around family, so she's decided to bring me with her.

My sister apparently has plans with her "study group" tonight, so she doesn't have to go. I'm not very good at lying, so I wasn't able to come up with an excuse. My sister's been teasing me about it all week.

Grabbing my lunch bag, I head to my usual table in the lunch room. I'm usually here before Alyssa, so I sit down and start eating my turkey sandwich, waiting for her to show up. There are so many things I'm stressed about right now, I don't even know where to start with my worrying. Besides the obvious, aka the Christmas party tonight.

Before I can really start stressing over it, I see Alyssa rushing over towards me. I wave at her, and she waves back, smiling large. She's always happy, and it's one of my favourite traits about her. She's a great friend.

"Ugh, I cannot wait for this day to be done" she says, sliding into the seat across from me. I nod, taking another bite from my sandwich. I totally agree.

"Thankfully I only have English, until my spare. I can manage that." she's talking as she's taking out her lunch. After she sets down her food, she pulls her long brown hair into a ponytail. I see she's a little out of breath, and her pale face is flushed red. Before lunch she has gym, so I figure today's class was pretty strenuous.

"You're so lucky, I still have chemistry and math," I complain. I don't hate those classes, but a spare definitely sounds nicer.

She sticks out her tongue at me, then starts eating her food. I start back on mine as well. One of the best things about out friendship is that we're both comfortable with silence. We don't need to be constantly talking when we're with each other. And that helps a lot, because sometimes I feel like talking all the time is too exhausting.

As we sit there and eat, I watch as other students come into the lunch room, all sitting at their tables.

"So, got any plans tonight" Alyssa asks.

I sigh. "Yeah, that party I told you about. For my mom's work"

"Ahh, right. I know you're looking forward to that" she teases.

"Right." I frown.

"I'm sure it will be fine. You've met some of her coworkers before. And you said they were nice"
