i walked out of the orthodontist's office and walked up to the receptionist.
"hey Athena same time next month?"
"morning debbie, yea that's good"
"okay i have you on for October 15 at 7:30"
"sounds good deb see you next month!"
i rushed out of the office and into my car. i was already a half hour late for school. before beginning to drive though, i looked at my new coloured bands in the mirror. dark navy blue. my teeth we not too far from being straight. it's kid of embarrassing being a senior with braces but i can make it work.
8:45 School
i step out of my car and adjust my skirt. i attend a catholic school so my uniform is necessary. as i walk into the school i head for the office. i remember that today we will be spending the day in the chapel doing a retreat. the first part was to go to confession. that was from 7:50-9:00. i collected my late slip and practically ran to the chapel which was luckily not that far. i handed my late slip to the principal mr. hood. he was new this year. all the way from sydney to here in Pennsylvania. "late today love? is something wrong?" i blushed at the pet name he had given me. "no nothing wrong mr. hood. i had an orthodontist appointment. see?" i flash him a smile so he can see my new colors i had in. "ahh yes i do remember seeing you with purple in yesterday, correct?" i nodded and smiled "the blue suits you love" he says it with almost a wink at the end. i smile at him blushing profusely "i wish i could say it won't be happening again but i'll be late once a month until i get my braces off" he nodded understandingly. "well since you have an appointment," he marked the excused box on the slip and tucked it in his pocket. "lets go before you miss too much more of the retreat." i nodded. he gestured for me to walk and he followed next to me. he walked me to a seat in the line for confession. i was next. i walked into the room. "forgive me father for i have sinned."
