An old grey haired and bearded man, was pacing restlessly, outside the Fishermen’s Folly Inn, when Furion and Thunk approached on their horses.

“Good day to you.” Furion welcomed as he swung off his mount

The response was silent from the edgy man, who was lost in his own thoughts.

“I say, good day to you, Inn keep.” Furion tried again

“Oh, sorry, didn’t see you their traveller,” finally responded the grey haired inn keeper “and I’m afraid it not been a good day, here, well night as it happens.”

“Why wants, happened.” Enquired Furion

“A fight, and I’m sorry to say, I hide behind the door when I saw the swords raised.” Worried the Innkeeper “I fear I’ve let my wife down, with my cowardest.”

“What was the fight about?” asked Furion

“I don’t know,” troubled the Innkeeper “but that bolt of black magic that shot from the scarred ones hand, has got me living in fear that he’ll return.”

“I’m sure he’s a long way from here, by now.” Furion tried to reassure him, as Thunk nervously surveyed the landscape from on top of his horse.

“The elegant lady, said he was infected by the Black Dread?” Anxiously stated the Innkeeper “I though that Black Dread, was a long time dead, and only found in the history books.”

“I’m sure that he is.” Continued Furion calmingly “You said an elegant lady was present?”

“Yeah, came down from the Capital, I believe,” explained the Innkeeper “She had her bodyguard with her, who got stuck by the black bolt, he survived though, just, he was one of those red mercenaries.”

“A Blood Rapier.” Stated Furion optimistically

“Yeah, that’s him,” agreed the Innkeeper “he had a red eye patch, and a long flowing red cloak, and blond hair, not too dissimilar to yourself.”

“Thadis.” Mentions Thunk with a grimace

“Where are they now?” Asked Furion hastily

“They just left to go on to Brightport,” Indicated the Innkeeper “They won’t have got far, the red one was still in a great deal of discomfort, from his wounds.”

“Thank you for your time.” Acknowledged Furion as he jumped back into his saddle and they headed off down the Western road towards Brightport.

And possibly Furion’s second mistake.

Kan had finally slowed his horse down to a canter as Ornoc had stopped his steed to look at a dead carcass on the Gomodin Plains.
