I looked down at the Valentine's dance tickets, that I'd bought. I didn't really know what to do with them. I just bought them for no apparent reason. I stuffed them in my pocket and got ready for the next class.
After lunch, I had Spanish class, which meant I had another opportunity to try and talk to Reina. I walked to Spanish class praying for a better outcome, than English class. I settled down and waited for Reina to show up, but even when the school bell rang, she didn't show up. I started to worry. Was she ok? Did she go home early because she was too upset at me? I didn't know what to think. Halfway through the class, I was about to go up to the teacher and ask where Reina was when I saw Reina outside the window. Reina was walking out of school with her mom and the school nurse. I could only see her from behind, so I wasn't sure what was going on. But she was limping and the nurse and her mom had their arms on her shoulder as if they were lifting her up. Her right pant leg was rolled up and her right leg was bundled up with some bandage. I kept my eyes fixed on her until she got into a car and drove off.
When the bell rang for the end of Spanish class, I ran up to one of Reina's friend in the classroom next door and asked her what had happened to Reina.
"She sprained her leg real bad during gym class," she explained. My mind went blank. I was glad that she wasn't severely hurt or she wasn't going because she was upset of me. But I was really worried because if she was hurt, it meant she was going to stay absent for a while, meaning I wouldn't be able to see her.
As soon as school ended, I took out my phone and texted Reina. 'Are you ok? I heard what happened' I texted. I walked home, clutching my phone close to me, checking it every once in a while. I started doing homework as soon as I got home. After homework, there was still no reply from Reina. After dinner, nope no reply. It was 9 pm, and there was still no reply back. I started to worry. I wasn't sure of what to do. I wanted to text Reina even more, but I knew that even if I texted her, she wouldn't reply. I wanted to talk to her somehow. I hated the fact that I couldn't leave her alone.
I groaned, then rolled out of bed. I grabbed my coat and ran out the door, calling out, "Be right back!" to my parents. I jogged in the chilly night. I was planning to go to Reina's, thankfully I knew where she lived. I got to her house and I looked up at the windows on the second floor. One window had white lace curtains and the other window just had plain black curtains. I assumed that the window with the lace curtains was Reina's room. The lights to that room were on. I cupped my hands around my mouth, like a megaphone and yelled,
"Hey, Reina!" As soon as I said that I regretted it. I didn't want to knock on the door, because if I had, then I'm pretty sure her parents would've answered it. But I realized, if I had yelled for her, then her parents will hear me. I turned around and I was about to run before Reina's parents started to chase after me. Then I heard Reina's voice, that I was longing for the entire day.
"What are you doing here?" I turned around to see Reina at her balcony. She was wearing a cast and was leaning on her crutches. I was paralyzed at first because I didn't expect her to answer.
"Um, just came here to see if you are ok," I said awkwardly. Dang, I should've thought out what I was going to say, I thought to myself.
"Uh, well I'm ok I guess. Thanks?" she answered. I nodded and looked down at my shoes. There were a few seconds of silence until I snapped back to the real world.
"I better get going until your parents come out," I said pointing towards the streets.
"My parents are not at home. They went out for dinner," she responded.
"Oh, cool," I said. Another awkward silence.
"Ok then, I think I'm going to bed," Reina started. She was about to go back in when I couldn't hold it anymore. My feelings just burst out.
"Look, Reina," I started. She stopped and looked back at me. "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry."
"For what?" Reina asked, shrugging.
"I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. And I hate myself for hurting you, I admit that I'm a big jerk. You're right, I've changed and not a good change. I've become a person that I didn't want to be. I've become a person that doesn't care for others. I've changed and I don't even know who I am anymore. I'm sorry," I said. "I'm sorry," I whispered one last time. My eyes that were fixed on Reina the entire time couldn't resist any longer and I looked away.
"Umm..." Reina replied she was fidgeting with her hair. She was looking at her crutches, but I was able to see her flushed pink cheeks. I've put Reina in a hard position and I felt a little guilty.
"You don't have to say anything. I just wanted you to know," I exclaimed, "See you tomorrow."
I turned around and started to jog back home. When I got home, I jumped in bed and heard my phone buzz a notification. I took my phone and checked my new text. It was from a Reina! Excitement rushed through me.
Reina: Hi. Thanks for what you said today. I'm sorry that I didn't answer immediately, I was just really surprised. I guess I'll say that I accept your apology...
Me: Phew! Thanks for accepting my apology
Reina: LOL, one last question
Me: Ya, what is it?
Reina: Is it really true that you like Megan?
My mind went blank once more. I didn't know what to reply. I didn't like Megan, I was just acting as if I like her to fool people in not liking who I actually like, which was Reina. I wanted to explain to Reina the real reason people think I like Megan, but if I did then I would have to tell her that I liked her. I had no choice...
Me: Yeah, I like her only a little tho
Reina: Oh... cool
Me: But I like you too!
Reina: What?
Me: ... as a friend
Reina: Oh
I regretted what I'd sent as soon as I sent it. I really wanted to tell her the real reason. But I was just a jerk that is too scared to let people know who I like for real. I hated myself even more.
