They say the quiet type were the ones with the loudest minds, and that's true, because my mind was bursting about Lucas Myers.
I had had a crush on Lucas for some time now. His hair, his eyes, his smile, his gentleness, overwhelmed me with joy. I couldn't stop thinking about him.
I've known him since the fifth grade, and I clearly remember the first words I said to him when he introduced himself,
"You smell nice."
I know, it's lame, but it's all I could boggle out. Lucas smiled, but I could tell he was uncomfortable, but from that day, I couldn't lay my eyes off of him.
I remember another event, in 7th grade, Lucas and I had to work on a project in class together. He ended up having to present by himself because right before we went up to present he said to me,
"You look nice."
And in return I said,
"Um thanks, you smell nice."
After I said that the tears started to come and I ran for my life to the teachers supply closet and acted sick so I wouldn't have to present.
The teachers supply closet was my favorite place, none of the teachers ever went in there, and most of them never knew it even existed. It was located next to the girls locker room next to the gym. I had discovered it when I was trying to hide from Lucas.
I go to a charter school, which are grades 5th through 12th, so I know my way around the place.
I didn't have any friends and often ate lunch in the teachers supply closet. It was my only sense of privacy, no one ever came in, and I would cry, laugh, and dream about what would happen if Lucas and I ever got together, which I figured in eighth grade would never happen. But then something miraculous happened in 9th grade that my small little brain couldn't handle.

Romance"Oh hey Luna!" I looked up and saw Lucas dancing next to me. "Oh hey Luke. You uh, smell nice." Shit. What was I saying. In embarrassment I turned and ran for the door, only to be followed by Lucas, into the quiet, dark, teachers supply room.
