3 hours. I've got 3 hours until the party starts.

I'm currently in my bedroom, looking through my closet, trying to determine what to wear. I asked my mom what she thought when I got home from school, but she told me I didn't need to wear anything too fancy. She said, as she was straightening her hair while wearing a full face of makeup.

I know my mom has been wanting to get a promotion at her job for a while now. She's been telling me that she thinks she's getting really close to the promotion. I don't think her dressing up real nice for this party is going to lead to her getting that promotion, but I don't feel the need to tell her that. She's been sad lately because we found out my dad is going to have to stay in France for his business trip for a couple more weeks, and he doesn't know if he'll be back for Christmas. My mom and dad's anniversary is on Christmas, so the holiday is even more special, and we're all going to miss him if he can't come back home.

Right, back to choosing a non-fancy party outfit.

I search through my closet for a bit, scanning through the row of hoodies and leggings. You can say my style is pretty basic, but it's what I'm most comfortable wearing. My sister and my best friend Alyssa often take me shopping with them, and I enjoy going, but I never buy anything. And if I do, it's usually just a plain hoodie. They're trying to get me to branch out, but I don't really care to.

Even though my mom said I don't need to wear anything fancy, I figure a hoodie and leggings isn't going to be good enough. My sister, who is currently out with her "study group", has a lot nicer clothes than me. So I decide to go to my sister's room to pick an outfit from her. Even though she's two years older, we're basically the same size.

I come back with a nice knitted red long-sleeved shirt and some fitted black jeans, and then I put them on. I then go to my mirror and examine my hair, trying to decide what to do with it. I have medium length blond hair with a part at the left side to give me bangs. I usually just brush it and go, and I figure that's what I'm going to do now.

Once I grab my purse, making sure I've brought my phone charger, I head downstairs to wait for my mom. Now that I've gotten dressed, we still have about 2 and a half hours until the party starts, so I figure to just watch some tv as I'm waiting.

I zone out for a bit, thinking about this upcoming party. I'm really nervous, even though I know I don't need to be. My mom will be there, even though she'll probably be hanging out mostly with her coworkers. It's a professional office, so I'm sure the party won't be too crazy, and so I won't have to worry about any hijinks. I think I'm just nervous about being seen as awkward, as I know I will be. I'm probably just going to stand in the corner, or sit near the buffet table all night, just chatting with whoever comes up to me.

I think I zone out for a while, or maybe even fall asleep, as I'm suddenly startled by something large but soft landing on me. I look around quickly, and see my mom standing over me, and see that she's dropped my winter jacket onto my lap.

"Come on, party starts in an hour, but it's a Friday so there's going to be traffic" my mom states, as she starts walking towards the door to put on her own winter coat. I stand up and slip on my jacket, turn off the tv, then follow her to the door.

"So what do you think of my outfit?" She asks, spreading her arms to let me see her full dress. It's really nice, long sleeved and black, with little silver decals around the waist area. I also see she's putting on her nicest pair of boots, totally not appropriate for the winter snow outside.

I raise my eyebrow at her "I thought we didn't need to wear anything fancy"

She just shrugs "You don't. Alright, tv is off, lights are off, we're good to go" She says as she turns towards the door, opening it to go outside.

"You look nice mom" I tell her. We head outside, and my mom closes and locks the door, the winter chill biting already biting at my cheeks and ears. I shiver a bit, and follow my mom to her car.

"Thanks Sara" She smiles, then gets into her car. I get in as well, anticipating for when it's warmed up and I won't have to feel so cold anymore.

We pull out of the driveway and make out way to the party. I have about half an hour left or so to worry about this thing, before I'll just have to suck it up and make small talk with my mom's coworkers.

As well as any kids of theirs they might bring. It is family themed after all.
