It had been months since anyone had seen Maya Hart. She had potentially run away from home after Lucas Friar the guy she fell for picked her best friend Riley Matthews, and the one person who was there for her Josh Matthews had forgotten about her and found someone else.
Riley was getting ready for the first day back to school since summer break when she hears a knock on the door. She runs to the living room and opens it. "Howdy" Lucas said as he peaked inside the house acting like he was tipped a cowboy hat. "Hey Huckleberry" a nickname that was originally given to him by Maya.
Lucas looked down at the floor for a moment and then at the direction of Riley's room. "She's not gonna come running out ya know" Riley sat down "It's different now she's not here to tease you on the way to school anymore"
Riley looked back down at the floor holding back tears. Lucas sat down next to her and grabbed her hand "I know"
Lucas stood up for a moment "No more fridge railings first thing in the morning and right before she leaves at night" Lucas pulled Riley's arm for her to stand up.
As she stood up Lucas pulled her in for a hug. "Go finish getting ready then I'll take us to school"
Riley smiled and ran back to her room fixed her hair and makeup then grabbed a yellow denim jacked that was once Maya's and threw it on.
She sat on her bed and put her pillows in the right spot. She stood up and walked to her vanity by the door.
She sat down and looked at herself in the mirror. Lucas came in and put his arms around her and hugged her "you're beautiful ya know" Lucas kissed her head. Riley smiled "Oh Huckleberry youre such a flirt" she laughed a little
"What so the nickname stuck but not me" Riley and Lucas both turned around to see Maya sitting on the bay window playing with one of Riley's stuffed animals
"I like what you've done with the place very mature looking, oh and that jacket must know where you got it from"
Maya laughed to herself then sighed. Riley jumped up "Maya oh my god you're back!"
She ran in for a hug but Maya moved. "Yeah and not for long" Maya closed the window she came in threw. she smiled and lasted down on Riley's bed
"What do you mean not for long" Lucas stepped forward. Maya automatically stopped smiling and went back to the window "I should've come back"
she opened the window and Lucas grabbed her hand and she pulled away "You don't get it do ya Ranger Rick!" Maya yelled as she moved away from him
"You're the reason I left in the first place" Maya looked over at Riley "You and her!" She yelled as Lucas closed the window
"why. Why did we make you leave" Lucas yelled back. Maya got closer to him and got in his face
"I loved you with all my heart, and you both knew that." She stopped and looked him dead in the eyes
"And you still chose her" Maya backed away and stomped out of the door slamming it behind her. "We hurt her Riles" Riley rolled her eyes "We didn't do anything Lucas" Riley opened her door and threw Lucas his keys "Let's go our we'll be late for school.
Lucas and Riley arrived at school right as the bell rang they rushed into first period (Math) and sat down. As the teacher started rambling about their lesson Lucas looked across the room and saw Maya.
"Maya" he lightly whispered hoping she would hear him. No response
He got Riley's attention and pointed to Maya. Riley filled her eyes and went back to her work. Was he the only one that cares that Maya was back.
As class ended kinda were getting ready to go to next class. Riley had Science and Lucas had History he hoped that Maya had it too.
As he entered the room he saw kids throwing paper and pencil and the teacher doing nothing
He scanned the room a little bit more and saw Maya throwing paper at like it was a softball
"Maya" Lucas yelled through the chaos. Walking to her seat
Maya looked up and him and stood up "What is it Huckleberry you want to apologize and then hook up under the bleachers" Maya ran her hand down his chest teasing him
Maya laughed "if only you would have chosen me huh"
The teacher told everyone to sit down and calm down as he started going over their lesson for the semester
Maya put her feet up on her desk and looked over at Lucas she could feel all her old feelings come rushing back. She raised her hand ad asked if she could be excused she ran out of the classroom almost in tears.
Lucas saw Maya through the door and asked if he could use the bathroom he walked out the door and pulled Maya done the hallway.
"What do you want Ranger Rick" Maya asked him. Her voice was so shaky.
"Maya I.." Lucas went to speak but no words came out of his mouth.
"You what Lucas" Maya wipe away a tear that had made its way out of her eye.
Lucas stood there. Silent. Maya rolled her eyes and and walked back to the classroom she sat back down and went to sleep
Lucas followed behind her still completely silent He sat back down and waited for the bell to ring
