Light flickers in the distance, as two young girls are at the last step to figuring out what secrets lie in their past.
"Emma, I'm scared"
"Don't worry Allie, if anyone knows.. It's him."
Allie runs up the sidewalk passing multiple signs with not-so-nice words.
"Hey Emma, what does that mean?" Asks Allie
"Nothing you need to worry about" Emma says.
"But why does it say shi-" Emma covers Allies mouth before she can say another word.
"Because it does, now come on!" Emma says thinking about Allie saying it anyway when she's older. Emma's golden hair sparkled in the soft moonlight.
" I still don't get why Liam doesn't like you" Allie said in a confused yet quiet voice.
" I mean... your pretty, your adventurous, you like to eat cereal with your hands..."
" I do NOT!!! You're just talking about yourself!" Emma yelled in frustration. (And none of it's true about you) Emma thought.
"Ohhh, I guess I am. My bad," Allie said while chuckling.
"Let's not talk about this anymore, okay?" Emma pleaded.
"Alright," Allie said back, slightly disappointed.
"I'm sorry... it's just...." Emma stopped. They were finally at the door of his house.
"Here goes nothin'," says Allie. Emma knocks on the old, rotting door. The door creaks, but doesn't open. She tries again. Knock, Knock, Knock. Still no answer. She tries to push open the door.
"Uhhhh, WHY...CAN'T...I...OPEN...THIS...STUPID...DOOR!" Screams Emma. With the last bang of her fist, Emma bashed down the door to the decaying home. But the house was empty. Cold, dark, damp, and empty.
"No... he has to be here, he must be here."
Emma frantically searched through the house shouting the mysterious fellows name.
"Alex... Alex," She called out, desperately hoping that he just didn't hear her. Allie caught Emma in her speedy run through.
"Emma..." Allie said. But she didn't answer. All she did was mutter under her breath
"He has to... He must."
"Emma," she said again.
"EMMA!" her screeching sort of scream shook Emma back into consciousness.
"Emma, I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I'm gonna get in trouble anyways... let's just go home." Allie said while walking out of the door with her head hanging down, and her eyes filled with sadness.
~ 2 years earlier ~
Yes! Emma thought. "Today is the day I get to drive!"
"Don't you need a licence for that?" asked Allie sarcastically.
"Oh shut up you little..." Emma was silenced by the click-clack of high heels approaching them. Click-Clack Click-Clack Click-Clack.
"The headmistress! Hide!" said Allie. The head of the orphanage (or "The Evil Headmistress" as the children call her) was a nasty, spirited woman. With cheeks that sagged and drooped down like the branches of a weeping willow tree, she was a nasty looking woman as well. Her eyes would stare into your soul and make you think about your biggest fears. Don't even try to imagine what it's like if you get in trouble with her. ( I know, and it's not fun) Emma and Allie ducked into the little fortress they had made in between the walls of the orphanage, from when they were little. Emma, being a "little" bit bigger then she was when she was only 12 years old, (but still very slim) was having some difficulty getting into the crevice that seemed the perfect size all those years ago!
"Allie, don't just sit there laughing! Help me get in this thing!!" Emma said.
"Sorry, I just can't help myself! I love it when you humiliate yourself!!!" said Allie while trying not to laugh uncontrollably. Reluctantly, she pulled and pulled until Emma finally popped in, and it was like nothing had happened. They quickly hurried through the tunnels and got to the door that opened into the dining hall. Allie was just about to open the door when I yanked her backwards.
"What was that for? I was getting us to freedom!" Allie complained.
"You were going to get us killed! Listen..." Emma said in a whisper.
They could hear the Headmistresses voice mumbling in the distance.
