"shit." ciarán mumbled.
he looked in the mirror, messed up his hair and his shirt, and slightly undid the zipper on his pants.
the goal was to look like he was 'boutta get some', and he thought he did a decent job.
he cracked opened the door just enough so that he was visible, but the rest of his room wasn't. it helped that his lights were already off, so salem couldn't be seen in his bed.
"we're busy." he glared.
"i think she has time to talk to me." ryan said, noticeably growing agitated.
ryan tried to push open the door even further to get into the room, but ciarán pushed ryan away with just as much force.
"i said: we're busy. now, fuck off." ciarán said sternly before closing the door and locking it.
ryan started banging on the door like a madman, screaming, "FUCK YOU TOO, BITCH!"
despite being very intoxicated, salem woke up due to the commotion. she sat up slowly and rubbed her eyes.
"who's that? where am i? oh shit, did we do anything?!" she asked in a major state of confusion.
ciarán chuckled, sitting down next to her on the bed.
"first off: no, we didn't do anything. second: you're in my room. third: it was ryan, but i'm not letting that shithead in." ciarán explained.
"oh. good, i didn't wanna talk to him anyway." she put her head on his shoulder and almost fell asleep again, but ciarán kept her awake with a nudge of his shoulder.
"do you wanna stay here or go home?" he asked. last time, he offered to take her home, but she was already knocked out. he needed a definite answer.
"i'd like to stay. wait, what happened to my shoes?" the longer she stayed awake, the more confused she seemed to get.
"i took them off for you, and i took your makeup along with it."
"oh, thanks for doing that. you really didn't have to." she flushed at the thought of him taking care of her.
ciarán shrugged, "it wasn't a big deal. do you want something comfortable to sleep in?" he asked.
"i mean, this dress is already comfortable, but fuck yes!" she exclaimed. she didn't know why she was so happy over clothes.
ciarán laughed, looking in his closet for a sweater that was surely way too big for her frame.
he held it up in front of her, asking if it was okay.
she gasped, "cute!" she made grabby hands, signalling how much she wanted the sweater.
ciarán chuckled once more, handing her the sweater.
"can you turn away real quick?" she asked, tugging on the bottom of her dress.
a wave of heat rushed to ciarán's cheeks, but his room was dim enough so that she couldn't see him.
"sure." he turned around and awkwardly stood there, waiting for her to tell him when it was okay to turn around.
"okay, you're all good now." she said, and ciarán turned around.
"you look better in it than i do." he told her.
"thanks. it's real cozy." she mumbled, laying down. she laid on her side, her palms together and sandwiched between the pillow and her cheek. she closed her eyes, trying to let sleep take over her body.
"mhmm." ciarán made sure she was facing away from him changing out of his jeans and into his sweatpants.
he pulled the covers over her body, and got into the bed with her, trying his best to allow her some personal space. instead, she turned toward him.
"can't fucking go back to sleep thanks to his loudass for waking me up." salem pouted.
"want me to sing you to sleep?"
"will you really?" her eyes brightened.
"if it helps you go to sleep, yes."
salem got closer to him, putting her head on his chest and clutched his arm. she heard his heartbeat grow fast.
"sing me something."
ciarán cleared his throat and started singing.
"was i more than it's worth
or will you see my name and i'll fade?" ciarán began.he spent the next two minutes singing the song, but he didn't realize that his shirt had grown damp with salem's tears.
ciarán sat up, causing salem to sit up.
"hey, you good?" he asked, pulling her into his lap.
she shook her head, wrapping his arms around his neck and crying into his shoulder. he rubbed circles into her back, trying to comfort her.
"what's wrong?" he asked. it was then that he realized that the song probably hit her hard because of her recent breakup.
i'm such a fuckin' dumbass!
"i-i can't tell why i'm crying? maybe it's because i'm drunk and emotional over your voice, or maybe it's because of ryan?" she hiccuped.
"i shouldn't have sang that damn song." he mumbled to himself.
salem pulled away from ciarán's shoulder.
"no, it's okay! that was honestly beautiful. i haven't had a good cry in a while, and i needed that, so thank you."
"that doesn't change the fact that i'm still a fucking dumbass."
she giggled, "sing me something else, and we can forget this even happened."
ciarán wiped the tears from her cheeks with the pad of his thumb.
"in the heat of the summer," he began again.
salem's smile grew wider as the song went on. when it got to the chorus, they made eye contact and didn't break it.
ciarán finally finished the song, scratching the back of his neck.
"it would've been better if i had sang it with my electric guitar but—"
salem interrupted his babble by pressing her lips against his.
she pulled away, smiling. "shut the hell up. that was beautiful. you have the voice of an actual angel."
"i'm starting to think you actually enjoy kissing me." ciarán chuckled, causing salem to blush and for her to hide her face in his neck. she instantly regretted her decision, as his beard tickled her face.
"your beard's ticklish." she stated.
"you tryna change the subject?"
"not exactly, but i think i can fall asleep now. good night!" she got off of him and laid down once more, actually falling asleep this time.
"whatta girl."
