Sophitz 31: I don't want to sleep alone tonight
Sophie had just woken up from her three-hour "cat nap" - which was more like a restful nights sleep. She turned her head slightly while clapping to turn on the lights. With a quick glance at the hot pink clock on her bedside table, it was nearly 3 in the afternoon, which meant that Sophie was late to the Vackers for Base Quest.
In her flurry of panic, as usual, her hair was left unkempt and looked like a hedgehogy-porcupine mess, sticking up in points. Looks like she had drooled on her hair so much that when it dried, it was like glue. Her gold-flecked milky brown eyes, still groggy and looking sleep deprived after a 3 hour nap, wandered around the room looking for her gloves. They were laying on the light pink petaled carpet in the corner near the tall glass window panes. She stood up wibbly-wobbly, and ran in a very not straight line to pick them up. As she went by Vertina, the holographic image popped up and cringed.
"Sophie, honey, you look... awful." said the beauty guru image.
"Yes, I know, Vertina." Sophie scoffed at the rude and beautiful mirror.
"Well, can you at least fix your hair?!"
Sophie stepped out of the mirrors view, disgusted by how Vertina was being. After spending about 5 seconds trying to fix her hair, Sophie gave up and ran down stairs to leave a message for Grady and Edaline, who were outside dealing with a vast array of the creatures.
Dear Grady and Edaline,
I am going to the Vackers house because I had already promised to go over and play base quest. I will most likely spend the night. And no, I have not been captured by the Neverseen. Just use an imparter to contact me if needed (or use Alden as a liaison to relay messages).
Love your daughter,
Sophie 🖤
After spending a minute on that message, she ran up the stairs to the LeapMaster and shouted, "Everglen!" at the top of her lungs. She glittered out of the top floor of Havenfield and appeared outside the massive, glowing golden gates. The gates swung open after she used her specially-permitted DNA access, revealing a concerned looking Fitz and Alden, and an also concerned Biana.
"Where were you!! I was afraid the Neverseen had done something." Fitz said with his adorable teal eyes flirting around her, searching for injuries.
"Fitz, there's no reason to worry." Sophie smirked when she said this, as this was Alden's trademark term, and absolutely loved shoving it in their faces whenever she could. Then again, it wasn't often because most of the time there was a lot of reasons to worry.
Fitz rushed forward, with Biana in tow, and hugged Sophie with a strong grip whispering in her ear the worries he had. Goodness, boys and their crushes, always worried about something. Then again, they did have a special bond of cognatism. He pulled back and surveyed Sophie at arms length, still searching for signs of whatever-he-assumed-had-happened.
"Let's play Base Quest!!" Keefe yelled, walking in through the shiny gates that hadn't closed yet. He flashed his trademark smirk and clapped Sophie and Fitz on the shoulders. "Let's get it on, lazy boys!"
After about 3 or 4 hours of being fought over for teams on Base Quest, Sophie called the quits. She was tired and worn out from all the mental energy she had used to play the game, since special abilities were allowed in their version. She stooped down to sit down on the grassy hill, fatigued. Catching her breath, she pulled the grass out by the roots, and tore the fronds into little bits and threw them. Guess she had another habit like tearing out her eyelashes.
Fitz stopped her from picking the grass. His hand was warm and comforting, worn but smooth. Sophie's hand was cold and petite compared to his. "Let's go inside, we're all tired."
Biana squealed while sitting at Keefe's side. "Major Fitzphie moment!! Eeeeeek!!" Keefe glanced adoringly at Biana, and then left.
After getting inside and eating mashed roots and vegetables that tasted like awesomeness - a combination of hamburgers, pizza, barbecue chicken and a lot of other good flavors that elves wouldn't want to eat (being vegetarian), it was already 9 at night. Not super late for most, but after THAT much exercise, they were zonked. Well, all except for Sophie.
Adrenaline was still coursing throughout her tired body (though she wasn't sure how that worked at all). Fitz and Biana had decided to sleep in their rooms, while Sophie had decided to sleep I the guest room that she stayed in when she first came to the Lost Cities. After changing into borrowed unicorn pajamas from Biana and all the other necessities, Sophie flopped onto the poster bed. The bed was nice enough, covered in thick, soft blankets and fluffy, soft pillows. Her body was tired but her mind was moving a thousand miles a minute.
A shadow in the corner of the room suddenly looked like someone in the Neverseen, trying to take her away. A breeze blowing through the open window sounded like screaming. She ran over the window, slamming it shut to keep down the images and fear. A shiver was sent up Sophie's spine and her mind kept transforming innocent things into things of her nightmares. She couldn't handle it, overwhelming her senses, keeping her awake and cowering.
She raced towards the door covered in the fuzzy pink blanket, opening it with a creak, and tip toed down the long hall of the second floor. Looking for some sort of consolation for her fears, she kept walking down the endless hallway until she found a door with light seeping out from underneath. She opened the door to escape from the night and her worst enemy: fear (and the Neverseen, but they weren't there). That room was apparently Fitz's.
She stumbled and reached for the handle to leave, but Fitz stared her down as her face flamed as red as a stop sign. She stopped and turned around, but Fitz had already stood up and walked to her side.
"Sophie, what's wrong?" worry and concern laced his deep, masculine voice.
"Um... it's nothing." rushing to leave, she tripped over her own feet and crashed to the floor, but silently because the ground was carpeted in a navy blue. It was quite comical, her covered in the pink fuzzy blanket, her feet tangled up among herself.
"Are you okay?" A sweet smile graced his lips, enhancing his bright white teeth. He must've been some sort of angel.
Standing up, Sophie blushed embarrassedly and fumbled for words. "I don't want to sleep alone tonight... " Fitz stood there. "I'm sorry, that was stupid, sorry. It's just everything was scaring me and, sorry." Standing ashamed, Sophie left the room.
Fitz leaned out the door, (you can picture it, can't you? Signature move) grasping for her hand. "Sophie, it's okay. You can stay in here if you want?"
She slipped into his room, calming down from his dim yellow lamp emitting a soothing light. Suddenly, she wasn't afraid anymore. She finally had her knight in shining armor.
