It was a dark and raining evening. The air smelt like rain and damp objects. My sister Kitty, my mum, my dad, and my friends Anna and Jane were all at the mall for end of year sales. I pulled my purple hoodie up and over my dark pony tail, and on my head and watched my parents complain how about mum forgot to bring the washing off the line.

"What do you think about this one?" Jane questioned us, holding up a blue floral patterned knee short dress by the hanger, and lightly pressing it up against her body.

"Ew, no. Go with this one over here," Anna walked off and gestured over to a new line of sparkling dresses that I honestly couldn't give a damn about.

"Clem!" My mother shouted from the other side of the small clothes store.

"I'm just going to see what she wants," I tell my friends before turning on my heel and heading towards my mother's voice.

"Hmm?" I ask as I swerve around an abundance of clothes.

"Your sister has run off again to god knows where. Can you go find her please," She tells me whilst checking the price tags on the lady's underwear. I mentally cringe.

Instead of answering I just nod and turn on my heel once again searching for my six year old sister. I stuff my hands into the pockets of my hoodie and stroll at my own pace, my eyes scanning the area for Kitty. When my eyes were rolling around searching for Kitty, I noticed the other people shopping as well.

A man eating Thai at a table right next to the glass railing started twitching in his chair irritably it seemed. When I thought that was odd, my dark eyes darted over to a lady who's skin was paling rapidly to a light green and was sniffing her husband's shoulder. I furrowed my eyebrows in complete confusion as to why everyone was acting completely insane.

After giving in so much effort (an obvious exaggeration), I pulled out my iPhone 4--because who has money to buy the latest iPhone 8 or whatever it is now--and texted Anna and Jane to ask help find Kitty. After placing my phone back into the pocket of my jeans, I heard a bing and pulled it out again reading the message.

Anna:

'She's with us now. She just got back from the restroom.'

I sighed after shoving my phone back into my pocket and speed walking to the store my family and two best friends were, having an uneasy feeling of being strangely unsafe around these people acting odd.

My feet lead me out the front of the small clothes store again named 'Everything Fashion', this time finding everyone outside the store holding plastic bags each filled with new purchased clothes.

"Thanks for sending me on that pointless journey, Kitty," I sarcastically remarked, shoulder bumping my little sister. Her face lightened up with amusement and only seconds later was replaced with complete terror, fright, and shock. "What?" I asked frowning.

She couldn't speak up but only have her eyes almost fall out of their sockets, and point her finger behind me. I raise an eyebrow and slowly turned around. I come face it face with the most terrifying person I've ever come across to my whole life. It was as if someone pulled this person right out of a nightmare and placed it into reality.

The woman had blood matted hair and her clothes were stained with lots of newly fresh blood. Her eyes were yellowish-white with no pupil. She opened her mouth and the most demonic sound erupted from her throat just as a pool of black fluid spilled from it at the same moment. Right on cue we started to hear gun fires and blood curdling screams echo the mall, plus many more of those demonic screams.

"Run!" I think it hear someone yell, and I don't wait another second to disobey. My adrenalin instantly kicked it and my feet darted past all the other paled and blood stained people, whilst I tried to think of where I was going. I guess the only thing I can think of at this horrific time is the car.

"Quick! To the car park!" I shouted behind us for my family and friends to hear. I glance over my shoulder of a second to double check to see if everyone was following only to have a missing mum and dad. I suddenly made my feet come to a sudden halt and turned around searching for them. The three girls that were on my tail also came to their sudden halt, almost ramming into each other. "Where's mum and dad?!" I shout frantically, my eyes darting all around the place.

My question was immediately answered by a loud masculine shout come from the fountain not far from where we were standing. My father was sprawled out across the ledge and had two bloody man eating people gnawing at his stomach, and tearing at his flesh with there dirty chipped nails, and yanking out random organs before shoving them into their mouth like their lived depended on it.

"DAD!" Kitty and I screamed in unison in terror and disbelief.

Is this really happening?

Please tell me this is a nightmare and I'll wake up from this any moment now. I squeeze my eyes shut trying to fight back incoming tears and to prove that this was a stupid nightmare. I open my eyes, it was still all there. "No!" I cry out, breaking into loud sobs.

From the distance we see my mother pushing past everything and everyone in her way heading towards us. Once she came to us she finally spoke up with heavy panting followed after. "Where's your father?" She panically asks, resting her hands on her knees. This only causes my tears to fall faster.

She raised an eyebrow and turned her head in the direction everyone was staring at. "No! Richard!" She screamed, echoing the entire mall. Before she could attempt to run over towards him she collapsed onto the ground and fainted.

"Mum!" I shout as we all try to pick her up again. As we were struggling to lift my mother off the marble floor, Jane shouted.

"No, stop!" Her hands instantly let go of my mothers arm. "She's been bitten," Jane starts to fumble over her own feet, backing away from the limp body belonging to my mother on the ground.

"So?! That's why we need to get her out of here!" I shout back, struggling to lift my mother up.

"No, no, no, you don't get it!" Jane and Anna try to pry my hands off my mother, but I shove them off. "Clem! Don't you see what's happening?! We're in the middle of a god damned apocalypse! Haven't you watched any horror films in your life? Once someone is bitten by those things, that's what they are soon to become, don't be stupid!" She attempts to pull me away again.

"No, stop it! You're all being ridiculous!" I shouted back just before I feel strong hands grab me from behind and pull me away from my mother. I kick and thrash at the person that is holding me, and they turn me around so I can look at them. It was a man that I don't know.

"No. You're being ridiculous and naive. Now. If you and your friends want to survive, I suggest you follow me," The mysterious man tells us before turning around and starts jogging towards the exit. He stops again and turns around to look at us again. "Well, come on? Are you just gonna stand there and wait for one of them to find you and eat your flesh up, or wait for her to awake up and do the same?"

"I guess we have no choice then." I state, grabbing my sisters hand and running after the man with the other two trailing behind.
