‘Alexandra, I am not telling you one more time, get up!’ yelled my mum from outside my bedroom door. ‘School starts in thirty minutes!’ I groaned, stretched and slowly made my way up from the bed. as I stood in front of the whole figure mirror in my room, in my sleeping t-shirt and panties, a rather tall, skinny and tanned girl stood before my. My waist-long dark brown, almost black hair was a mess after the nights’ sleep and my brown eyes didn’t really want to open fully. I was exhausted, I couldn’t fall asleep last night, and when I did, I had a dream about him again. I sighed and put on some clothes, worned out high-waisted shorts and a purple tank top.

‘Lex, don’t tell me you’re staring at that boy again’ said Alice, with a look of pity on her face.

‘Shut up, Al, I’m not’ It was a media lesson, one of my favourite lessons. Jai was sitting three rows away laughing at something on the computer with his twin brother Luke and some of their friends. I quickly looked away. Girls like me weren’t aloud to stare at boys like Jai.

Alice was curvy, but still skinny and she had green eyes and light brown hair. Her lips were full and plump. We were neighbours, and had been since the age of three, best friends. When she started hanging out with the popular kids when we started secondary school, I sort of came along. at first I’d enjoyed it, the attention, but when Alice and I started hanging with Kaitlyn, (black, plump, long braided balck hair) Bella (Italian, short dark brown hair, blue eyes) and Jessica (very tall, blonde long hair, blue eyes) things went a bit out of hand. They were extremely shallow, and the biggest matter for them were what to wear, which boy to seduce, and who to gossip about. Not to mention they were dumb and could be really nasty. I wouldn’t go so far saying I totally disliked them. Seeing them one-to-one was OK. They were nice girls, really. We five girls were the most popular girls in Penola Catholic School.

Bella was sitting in front of the computer next to me and Alice, she beckoned us to her. ‘You have GOT to see this!’ she was giggling and so was Kaitlyn and Jessica. Alice and I got to our feet. My heart sank as a stone when I saw what they were showing us. Daresundays, Milk Challenge.

‘Eeeeeew, this is like SO disgusting, drinking coloured milk and vomit, who does that?’ said Bella, and she put great empathy in the word ‘who’. They were all laughing. I gave away a half-convincing laugh myself. I felt sick when I saw Jai and Luke react. Jai just looked upset, but Luke looked somewhere near furious. Their friends were trying to reassure them.

‘I wouldn’t put a video on youtube if I was ugly, just saying’ said Jessica gleefully. A few people around us were laughing as well.

‘And what are they wearing? Big headed cunts, thinks they’re funny’ said Caitlyn loudly, looking directly at Jai and Luke.

‘And that kid James, you know? He’s fat.’ said Bella, and I knew she crossed the line. Luke clenched his fist, but one of his friends, I think his name was Tyla, were holding him back. This was the moment when Mr. Johnson walked in classroom and evryone one went back to acting as they were working on our assignment.

For a fleeting second, mine and Jai’s eyes met. His eyes were wary and cold. I tried with one look saying ‘I’m sorry’. He looked away.
