Chapter 11|fifteen minute life changes
I bit into the piece of meat, its juices delectably dripping off my fingers, an inaudible moan escaping my lips. I was in heaven. Rib heaven. I looked to an amused Jos. It wasn't everyday that I got to eat ribs for lunch and I was taking advantage of my brothers' bottomless offer to eat out.
"Enjoying yourself?" Jos smiled, watching me. He had ordered a bowl of lemon and herb wings which by now had already been gobbled up. We were unashamedly a family of big eaters and I although fast, I was the slowest.
"Mm-mmh." I smiled with my mouth closed. My head went back to my food. It was my favorite. Every time we came to this place, it was my go-to-meal. Grams of pork ribs, smothered in barbeque sauce accompanied with fried chips, salad and of course the drink. Although my mom could eat out every night if she wanted, we only went twice a month. She never liked wasting money, and 'eating out' was wasting money.
"How's school?" He smiled.
I swallowed, "How's your school?"
He gave a small laugh, " I guess it's okay, nothing much of it."
"Your job too?" I added.
"Yeah all fine" he smiled.
Jos was a medical genius. Although he went into university, with a fully paid bursary might I add, to pursue being an opthalmologist, he soon changed to become a general practitioner.
"I guess school is okay too." I laughed, wiping my hands off with a napkin.
"I'd tell you how important this year is for you, but I think you already know that."
"Yeah I do." I fumbled.
Silence filled the table, I looked at Jos, who seemed to have been looking at me, a smile on his face.
"Would you not stare." I smiled throwing a napkin to him, it landed on his plate. He laughed.
"You get so uptight so quick."
"I don't, it's just weird. Staring is weird" my gaze went back to my food.
"Your opinion, fair enough" he looked at me, "How are your friends?"
"Which one" I looked back to him.
"You say that like you have loads of friends. I mean the two- three you have-"
"I have friends" I pressed.
"Namely"
"Logan, Kate, Delane, Alex-"
