"Evelyn"
It's safe to say that I was a little disappointed. The girl from the bus was gone now and I was left with a strange feeling of void. She was definitely quite a distraction and that's something I least needed right now. Having gotten rid of her from my mind I scurried off to school. I was so late...

I entered the teachers' lounge only to find out there was nobody there. I tried to keep calm but my nerves were showing. First day of a new job, so embarrassing, I thought.
Then, almost as if my prayers have been answered, someone walked into the lounge. It was an elder man with gray hair, wearing an old fashioned stained shirt. I was saved. Right in front of me was someone actually capable of telling me what to do.
"Excuse me, sir" I said trying to look as if I belonged.
"I am to be the new English teacher but due to some unexpected events I arrived late, would you be so kind and tell me where can I get my schedule?"
When I was done rumbling he furrowed his eyebrows and to my surprise said:
"Ms. Carlsson? We've been expecting you. You missed one class... But let's just pretend that didn't happen. My name is Anthony Davis and I'm the principal of this school. Please follow me, I shall explain everything."
I was stunned. This couldn't have gone better, I thought. He genuinely seemed cool and was able to cut me some slack. Finally I got to relax a little bit, calm my nerves. I did as told and after a moment we entered the principal's office as I presumed.
"So, Ms.Carlsson..."
"Please, call me Evelyn" I wasn't really sure if correcting him this way was a right thing to do but still decided to go for it.
"Evelyn, all right, as you know our previous English teacher, Mr. Thompson, got sick. I don't know for sure but from what I've heard it's cancer. We couldn't risk being left with no replacement. We needed to employ someone immediately and your resume is flawless." He said and I felt flattered even though his words were just courtesy.
"Why thank you, sir" I replied politely
"Well, you started it, now you've got to start calling me Anthony." He smiled cheerfully and turned around to grab something from his desk.
"Here's your schedule." He said handing me a piece of paper.
"Thank you si.. I mean Anthony" How embarrassing, I thought. However he seemed to have not paid any attention to my gaffe.
"Next period is about to start so if you don't have any questions I do believe there is nothing left for me to do but wish you good luck. Now if you excuse me, I have a meeting to attend. I'll see you in the teachers' lounge." He closed the door behind us and before I could say anything disappeared around the corner.
I looked at the clock that was hanging on the corridor wall. God, I'm gonna be late again, I thought and took a glance at my schedule. Periods and classrooms were there but no clue on how to find them. I had to figure it out on my own. The only possible solution was to run around looking everywhere and hope for the best. So that's what I did.
Lesson time had already started when I finally found it. I entered the classroom all stressed out without realizing I suddenly became the center of everyone's attention. Guess coming in late saves you the effort to gain it.
