"Evelyn"

Feeling a little confused I quickly approached the blackboard and wrote my name on it. The silence in the classroom was overwhelming, almost unbearable. I took a deep breath and only then decided to turn around and face my students. They were frozen in anticipation.

"Hello class, my name is Ms.Evelyn Carlsson and I'm here as a replacement for Mr. Thompson. I'd like to start with..." I began introducing myself to the students and while I was looking around my gaze landed on a dark haired girl sitting by the window. She was looking at the scenery outside it and clearly didn't pay any attention to what I was saying.

But then suddenly she turned her head and looked directly at me and at that moment I hesitated and went silent for a second, an awfully long second. It was her. The girl from the bus. It cannot be, I thought. She looked mature and at the bus I never would have thought she could be a high school student. I managed to contain myself and continue my introduction but my thoughts were racing an I only hoped it didn't show.

She was looking at me, I was painfully aware of that. I craved her attention at the bus, now not so much. After I had almost forgotten about her, she happened to be in my class.

"I heard you didn't have much to do during English class up until now. I intend to change that." In response to what I said I heard a sigh of disappointment coming from some of the students. "I know, I'm sorry but you're gonna have to put some effort into it guys. To cheer you up a little bit I promise I'll try to make my lessons as interesting as possible."

I made my way to the teacher's desk and took a quick glance in her direction. She appeared to be concentrated on taking notes. I wondered why, I haven't even finished the introduction. Her hair was partially covering her face but I noticed she was blushing and I couldn't help but wonder what was the reason for it.

I realized I'd gotten a little lost in my own thoughts so I grabed the attendance list and begun reading the names of the students out loud.

Students one by one raised their hands so that I could tie a name to a face. I was slowly reaching the end of the list.

"Reed, Alycia" I read and another hand went up.

"Here, Ms. Carlsson" Said the blond haired girl who was sitting in the front row. She lowered her hand, turned her head a little and gave the bus brunette a weird stare that I couldn't decipher.

"Rodriguez, Victoria" I said and to my surprise the girl sitting by the window was lifting her arm.

"Here, Ms. Carlsson" She said very quietly, almost in a whisper. My gaze was concentrated on her yet she did not look at me, not once. Something felt off about it. Almost as if she was intimidated though I suspected it had something to do with Ms. Reed.

I can't deny it, it got me interested. Soon enough I was finished with the attendance list and had to move on to the actual subject. It's safe to say it was met with dissatisfaction from the students. I still occasionally glanced at Victoria, she had a beautiful name, I memorized it instantly.

The rest of the class went smooth, only from time to time some whispering could be heard. One time Alycia passed some note to a girl sitting behind her whose name I couldn't remember. She read it and stifled a laugh. I wanted to cut them some slack on my first day so decided to let it slip.

Finally the period came to an end and the bell rang. Everyone started gathering their belongings. So did I but simultaneously I kept my eyes on Victoria. She wasn't in a hurry to leave the classroom but when she started walking to the door...

"Victoria?"

... What have I done?
