Keaton’s P.O.V

“What the heck are you doing here?”

Reuben shrugged, “It’s a free country Keaton.”

Leyton had abandoned the football came to a halt next me. He looked frantically between Reuben and me several times before saying, “You know him?”

“Not really why?”

“He’s Nathan’s brother!” Leyton exclaimed, still staring at Reuben.

Reuben shifted awkwardly but smiled all the same. “Who’s Nathan?” I asked totally confused.

Reuben shook his head at me, laughing “My friend” Leyton told helpfully. He’s eyes shimmered in admiration as he continued to stare at Reuben.

Now it was my turn to stare at Reuben. “You have a brother?”

Reuben nodded with an incredulous look on his face. “You really don’t do your research do ya?”
I was about to shake my head but Leyton tugged on my sleeve.

“Let’s go home.”

“I need to talk to you, so I will meet you here in fifteen minutes.” I told, pointing to Reuben.

He shook his head, “It will just be easier if I come to your house and we can go from there.”

I didn’t bother to answer. I turned on my heel with Leyton at my side. He had the football tucked up his arm. Leyton glanced up at me seeing if I was watching him.

I noticed that his eyes kept darting to bit of pavement, which had a three-foot gap. I firmly grasped onto his hand, knowing that he would try and jump it.

“Can I try jumping over the hole?” Leyton asked, with begging eyes.

I studied the pavement; avoiding Leyton’s begging eyes. That’s the thing with Leyton he may be a little troublemaker but he was so cute you couldn’t help but love him.

Feeling the warmth of Leyton’s hand disappear, I snapped out my stupor. My eyes focused on Leyton balancing on the edge of the broken pavement. “Go Leyton!” Reuben called, encouraging him.

“If he jumps and dies, it’s on you.”

Reuben cocked a brow at me, “He’s young he will be fine.” He reassured.

Reuben’s reassuring didn’t much for my heart rate as Leyton jumped. He got pretty far before he started descending. I scurried over the hole seeing a little body in it. I turned on my heel facing Reuben.

“This is your fault!” I accused, pointing my finger in Reuben face. “If you didn’t egg him on, he wouldn’t have jumped.”

Reuben rolled his eyes as he walked by. “Hey Leyton, how ya doing down there?”

“Fine, I just hurt my knee.”

Next minute Reuben was kneeling on the ground and reaching into the hole. He lifted out Leyton as if he weighed nothing. “I’m flying.” Leyton exclaimed, spreading his arms out.

“O.K enough of the fun, let’s go home.” I grumbled, walking ahead.

I heard a few of Leyton’s protests but they somehow managed to catch up to me. Leyton was on Reuben back as he pretended to be horse.

My eyes involuntarily flickered to Reuben. He was so good with Leyton. It had me thinking, was he good with all kids or was he good with Leyton because his brother was friends with Leyton? I smiled seeing the pure happiness plastered on both of their faces.
