#FF 12th December (Sami's P.O.V)

The Mikaelson's nursery

Just after midnight.

Sami tosses and turns, still struggling to sleep ~ the excitement of seeing the bunnies keeping her awake. Silently, she sits up in bed and peers over at her sister; fallen deep, down into that dark well of sleep. The moonlight streaming in through their open window, illuminating Solveig's face as she snores softly, catches Sami's attention. Ever so carefully, she crawls out of bed and rests her arms on the windowsill.
The frozen winter wind gently caresses her bare arms, the fine hairs stand on end and she shivers slightly. Something pulls her eyes to a lone tree, not far from the house. Maybe it was the wind or fireflies dancing around the trunk like fallen stars, but something was drawing her towards the strange tree and she had to know what it was.
Solveig huffed slightly and pulled her bunny in closer to her chest, making Sami jump and turn to her sister. Relief washed over her though when Solvi's gentle snoring filled the silent room again.
Comically, Sami tiptoed out of the nursery, down the stairs and outside into the garden.

As soon as she heard the door click shut, Sami haphazardly bound across the dew covered grass, towards the tree. She stop a fair distance away, panting lightly, and watched as the fireflies performed their light show.
Slowly Sami began to pad forward and she reached out towards them. Tentatively, the fireflies took an interest in Sami and started to surround her in a yellow glow.
Sami giggled as one landed on her nose, making it twitch.
Some time passed and the sky started to burn, the stars hiding away. The fireflies seemed to pull Sami closer to the tree, willing her to climb.
She stared up at the tree, towering over her and then back at the embers of the horizon...and she understood.
Sami inhaled deeply, calming her racing heart. She approached the tree, trying to gauge how and where she should climb.
Not quite as gracefully as she might've liked, Sami shimmied up the tree. Finding purchase on the stronger branches, she eventually managed to reach the top.
Pushing back the amber leaves, Sami poked her head up, to be met with the sun - the land beneath her bathed in its glorious light, it's long fingers touching everything her eyes could see. And more.
