~ Vale's POV ~

~

"Running away was easy; not knowing what to do next was the hard part."

-- Glenda Millard

~

That girl was... weird.

Vale turned around, putting his headphones back in. "This is gonna be a long day" he told himself, as he watched the girl get off the train. Vale noticed something red on her face, but he just ignored her, continuing to listen to his music.

The train began to move.

Slowly, Vale's focus changed from the world outside to the picture he gripped tightly onto. A pit of sadness formed in his heart as he recalled when he took this photo.

On it there was a smaller Vale and his mother hugging tightly, beaming with happiness, before anything went wrong. Next to them was a boy with short blonde curls tumbling down his face, just like his mother's. He wasn't as close to them, but he still sported the same genuine smile like the other two.

Vale assumed that was the brother that he had never met. Or didn't remember.

Is he still alive?

He was five then, ignorant from the evil society and living in his own blissful world. A huge smile was spread across his small face; baby Vale was hugging his mother, who looked like she was struggling to breathe, but she smiled proudly. Vale chuckled at himself. He missed those times.

He looked so content in that photo. So did his mother.

Vale missed her. A lot.

" It was better when she was around." He told himself, but he knew there was no point wishing for it. It could not be changed now anyway, but he could not help but notice how pitiful he was. He used to be so loved.

Now he was all alone.

---

He glanced outside, something moving outside caught his attention. It was that weird girl that was staring at him from before, and she was ... running? Vale sprung up, peering outside after rubbing his eyes.

She was being chased.

Being the lazy arse he was, he didn't want to get up, but Vale knew he had to do something to get her on the train. She needed help.

Plus, he was curious.

Reluctantly, he heaved himself towards the train door, slapping the buttons to get them to open. He shoved the picture into his pocket, making sure he had both hands free.
Once it finally opened he stuck his hand out, hoping she would grab on to it. He could see her, she was close by, but was she close enough? Vale began to pray that she would eventually hold on, the platform's end was near by.

"Why am I caring?"

Tug.

Vale hauled her in.

Thud.

They were both sprawled on the floor on top of each other. Panting, out of breath. The girl had fallen on top of him, and she was *quite* heavy.

"Well, this is awkward."

Vale was the the first to spring up, blushing. The girl then followed, doing the same. How embarrassing. A stranger just fell on top of him. They barely made eye contact. Vale went to close the door, while the girl plopped herself onto one of the seats, rosy in the cheeks and her eyes hazy. She tucked a strand of her dark wavy hair behind her ear.

She .. was cute..

"Ew, no. Get that thought outta your head!" Vale warned himself. He closed the door and turned around.

There was a nice silence for a while.

Then Vale spoke.

"Could you, maybe, care to explain what exactly was going on?!?"

Then she spoke.

"You're quite nosy, aren't you?"

Vale fumed. He just helped her and instead of a "thank you" he has to handle this pesky girl. He slumped himself on the opposite seat in annoyance.

At least he had company for a while.

"Maybe it is better if we introduce ourselves" she said as a matter-of-fact. The girl held out her hand. "Hi, my name is Micah. What is your name?" A huge, but fake, smile was plastered on her face.

Vale hated fake people.

He rolled his eyes. Vale couldn't believe this situation.

The girl watched, waiting expectantly for an answer.

"Look, umm.. Micah, I am not here to make new friends. I am just trying to get home and not have to deal with delinquents (like you)."

She looked at him, barely masking the confusion on her face.

"Why else would those people be chasing you?" A small passive aggressive chuckle escaped her mouth, but Vale continued his unnecessary rant anyway.

"I don't want to hang out with you either, but since I helped you, I think I deserve an explanation. If you are not going to tell me, then don't expect me to tell you anything, I don't even know who you are. Plus, I don't want to be mixed up in your business, because frankly I don't have time for it..."

He would have continued, but he noticed she wasn't listening anymore. Instead she was ruffling through her bag looking for something.

He didn't even notice she had a bag with her.

Where did she get the bag from?

Is it magic?

Is SHE a magical criminal?

"EXCUSE me, I'm talking to you!"

She turned around, her face now dripping with malice. His eyes grew wide open, certain now that she was a criminal, a mastermind, because no one else could give a look like that.

And I repeat no one.

"Oh, I thought you didn't want to talk to me." She said, her voice laced with indifference, seeping like poison.

Vale could tell she was annoyed, so was he, but he knew better than to piss her off more.

So he stood there. Quietly.
