Confessions of Someone Who Loved the Wrong One

1 1 1

Knowing that my crying
would ignite the flame of us fighting,
no matter how crushing
it was inside,
I steeled myself and for you, I smiled.

Countless are the lies you have showered me with,
but in you, I still believed.
“It's all right,” I kept telling myself,
for a heart with love, is a heart always ready to forgive.

A lot of times my wants you have denied,
yours would have to come first, so I put mine aside.
Avoiding argument, I tried to forget my choice,
I chose you, so I silenced my voice.

Came the day I pondered on a question;
Is this what really happens when you love a person?
I looked at the mirror and saw an unhappy reflection staring back at me.
My eyes at last shed tears, but it was my soul that wailed loudly.
I found the answer now, no lies can ever blind and make me fail to see;
To the wrong one, I have given my entirety.

The second I woke up and broke free was when I learned
that if you fall for the wrong person,
you don't only get hurt, and lose love for yourself,
you will, ultimately, lose yourself.
You will apologize for what you didn't do,
and you will blame yourself for what they did to you.
You will then believe that all love brings is pain,
so you'll find yourself swearing,
you'll never love again.
