‘Jess, can you hand me the mascara?’ Kaitlyn asked as she was eyeing herself in Bella’s mirror.

‘Sure, Kate’ she answered and tossed the mascara to her.

‘Cheers’

It was friday afternoon. Me, Alice, Kaitlyn, Bella and Jessica were hanging out in Bella’s house getting ready for the party. I wasn’t really in the mood, but I couldn’t stand being home with my parents who clearly were going through a divorce, and my younger siblings, Lily and Michael looking at me waiting for me to explain why their mummy and daddy were fighting.

‘So, who’s coming?’ I asked, addressed nobody particulary.

‘Ah well, loads’ said Alice. ‘I’d say around 15 people from our year, lots of older people, you know Mike’s two years older so I bet many in his year are coming, and of course some from other schools, don’t really know them… oh and yes, probably Beau and his gang.’ She said the last part really fast, probably scared that I might get angry again. I wondered if Jai would come. He was almost never out partying. I’d been to the same party as Luke couple of times, but never seen Jai.

‘Oh good.’ I said, combing through my long dark hair.

I never told the girls about my confrontation with Jake and defending Jai, and apparently it was so embarrasing for the boys to tell, because they didn’t spread it either. Twice since the incident I caught Jai staring at me, but he looked away and blushed when he noticed me staring back.

For the evening I was dressed in a red, tight dress, with an open back. My hair was in a bun, and I had maybe little more make up on than I usually had. Bella’s older brother drove us to the party, and before he dropped us off, he turned around facing us.

‘Ok, girls… I want you take take it easy tonight, alright? Don’t drink anything more then what I got you, mum’ll kill me if you got in troube.’ He looked quite comcerned. ‘if something’s happen, call me, I’ll be at home.’

‘Alright, alright’ Bella said hurriedly. ‘Thanks, Leo! Come pick us up around 2am!’

We descended the car, and we could hear the loud music pumping. The party was already in full start, people were dancing and drinking, and I even spotted couple guys smoking weed on the terrass. Many of them were already drunk. I sighed, and heaved myself through the thick crowd, there were at least sixty persons in just the livingroom and kitchen. I cluthed Alice’s hand and we moved through the crowd. Many people called our names, some of them which I never even spoken to. My gaze wondererd around, searching. I couldn’t even lie to myself, I was looking for Jai. I kept looking for him when we saw Mike, he was standing with a couple of guys, including Beau.

‘Mike, MIKE!’ yelled Alice through the loud music. He turned around and beckoned us forward.

‘Hello Alice! Alex, glad you came’ he said looking at me.

‘Nice party you got going’ I said and smiled to him. There were no awkward tension between us, so we kept talking and he introduced us to his friends.

‘Hi, I’m Beau!’ said Beau. Not that I needed the introduction, I knew all about him.  I smiled to myself, what if he knew what I knew? I couldn’t help but acknowledge how beautiful he was, like his brothers.

‘I’m Alex! I almost shouted. The music was so loud. ‘You’re Luke and Jai’s brother, right?’

Comprehension seemed to dawn on Beau’s face.

‘Aaah, you’re Alex!’ He smiled at me. ‘Jai told me about you’ He now blinked his eye, and had a mischevous grin on his face.

Oh my god. He talked about me? what could he possibly have said?

‘Oh’ I just answered. ‘So.. uhm, what did he say?’

‘You ask him’ he said, still grinning pointing at figure sitting amongst five others sitting on a couch.

I smiled awkwardly at Beau, and looked over my shoulder to tell Alice where I was going. Her tongue was in one of Mike’s friends’ throat, so I doubted she would miss me.

I was never shy. Except in Jai’s presence.

‘Uhm.. Hi, can I sit down with you?’ I instantly recognised Luke and Daniel amongst them. Luke looked.. suspicious, and I couldn’t blame him. Daniel patted the seat beside him. ‘Be our guest!’ I sat down. ‘So my name’s Ale-‘

‘Come off it, everyone knows your name’ said Luke. Jai gave him an angry glance.

‘Thanks, Luke. This is Alexandra, she’s in mine and Luke’s year. The people around us had obviously heard what the girls in my gang thought about the janoskians, so they nodded and said nothing, scrutinizing me. I felt dirty. Jai looked uncomfortable. The only one looking trouble free was Daniel.

‘Jai, can I have a quick word with you?’ I almost sounded as my self again, the tone of confidence back in my voice.

He looked surprised but got up.

‘Sure’.
