Scarlett stared into oblivion as she thought about her dream, or otherwise, her nightmare.

Scarlett's Nightmare

It was a beautiful morning, and she had been walking down a path in the Red Woods forest. A trail she did not

recognize. The farther she walked down the path, the darker it got. Soon enough she could not see anything, and was

wondering were she was. It was now pitch black, She stared curiously into the darkness. She heard a growl, and footsteps coming closer. Scarlett closed her eyes. When she opened them, there were two red eyes staring at her. She wondered what this creature was. While in thought, the creature tackled her, ready to bite. She screamed. A wolf.

End of nightmare

Scarlett woke up in a sweat, terrified of what she had just seen. After a few minuets in thought of her nightmare, She decided to pass the thought of her dream and decided not to think about it and be on with her day. Scarlett walked down the hallway and into the kitchen where she would make herself breakfast. She made herself two eggs and heated up a bowl of leftover porridge from last nights dinner. When Scarlett had finished up her breakfast, she walked over to the front door and put on her red velvet cloak her grandmother had made for Scarlett before she died. As she tied the two strings into a tiny bow around her neck, she opened the front door letting the freezing morning air into the cozy cabin. Chills went up her spine as her skin started to form goosebumps from the sudden change in temperature.

Scarlett walked to the back of the house, grabbing some firewood and nearly tripping over from the heavy wood when she regained her balance and headed back into the cabin. She laid three pieces of firewood into the fireplace and set aside the extra. She scratched two pieces of flint together and sparked the fire. It started to get warmer in the cabin instantly. Happy with her success of starting the fire, she laid back, ready to relax when she heard a scratching at the door. Thinking it was probably just a lost dog, Scarlett opened the door to reveal nothing but the forest, and the cold winter air. It scared her just thinking that she did not know who or what was just at her door step, and then disappeared in a matter of seconds.

Still curious of the odd scratching, Scarlett grabbed her cloak and tied it around her neck once again and walked slowing through the forest in search of the one who had caused the scratching. When she was about to turn around and forget about it, she heard the bushes behind her rustle. Scarlett hid behind another bush and waited for what ever was behind the bush to walk out and reveal it self. When it finally came out of hiding, Scarlett was terrified. It was a wolf. And not just any wolf. It was the wolf from her dream. It was the wolf, from her nightmare.

The wolf was dark grey and had shiny crimson eyes. His paws were white, and so were the tips of his ears and tail. He stood there for a moment and after a few minutes it went back into the bush. When Scarlett thought it was safe, she tiptoed out of the bush she was hiding in and began to walk quietly back into the cabin. Before she could reach the door, she heard the rustle of the bushes again and knew that the wolf was looking at her. Scarlett turned around and the wolf growled at her. She stopped dead in her tracks. The wolf was still growling at her when her knees hit the ground. The wolf saw how terrified Scarlett was and realized that he had nothing to be scared of. The wolf saw a tear run down Scarlett's face and felt guilty.

Scarlett, scared out of her wits, sat there in fear. Not knowing what to do next, she closed her eyes and waited, waited for the wolf to charge at her and rip her throat out, killing her. When nothing happened, she opened one eye and didn't see the wolf in front of her anymore. Scarlett let out a sigh of relief. She turned her head, and almost died of fear, the wolf was sitting right next to her. She held her breath, in fear that the wolf would kill her if she moved. Scarlett sat there, just staring at the wolf until it turned its head towards her. The wolfs eyes went from angry to soft and Scarlett felt a little more safe. The wolf started to rub its snout against Scarlett's arm as in telling her to pet him. She slowly lifted her hand to his head when he growled. Scarlett jerked her hand back a little. When he stopped growling, Scarlett attempted to pet him once more. When she touched his dark grey fur, he nudged his head into her hand, closed his eyes and enjoyed the treatment.

After a few moments of welcomes and greetings, Scarlett got up and started to walk into the cabin with the wolf following right behind. She felt that she could trust him and welcomed him to stay and live in the cabin with her. As if he understood Scarlett, he nodded his head in agreement. Scarlett walked into the kitchen and grabbed some deer meat out of the fridge. She cooked one and left the other raw. She gave both to the wolf and he teared through the raw piece of meat. This just meant that she wouldn't have to cook for him, just give him clean, raw meat. She grabbed the cooked piece of meat and put it in the fridge for that nights dinner and gave the wolf another piece of raw deer meat. He ate it happily as Scarlett walked over to the dying fire, and inserted the extra wood that she had set by the fireplace and sparked it once more. The fire started immediately because there was small pieces of burning wood still in the fireplace.

Scarlett laid down on the floor ready to take a nap. The wolf had finished his meal and walked over to Scarlett and laid down next to her. Scarlett felt safe with the wolf, almost as if he was there to protect her. And with that she drifted off into a deep sleep.
