As we are driving it is rather quiet. I want to talk so that I can break the silence and make it less awkward. We are only thirty minutes into the trip when the cars to sudden stop. I jerk forward and bang my head on the dashboard. I look at him while rubbing my head and blurt out, “Dude what the heck?” He put his index finger over his mouth to say, “be quiet” and I immediately shut up. Once in complete silence I can hear, and see a girl screaming. She is far away but not far away to where I can’t see her.“Louis, we have to go help her she could be an addition to the group!”
“We can’t, Nevaeh. It would be putting ourselves in danger.”
“Well quite frankly, I couldn’t care less, and I’m going to save whoever is screaming with or without you.” I sass to him as I jump out of the car. I grab my quiver, bow, and emergency backpack. I don’t need him.
Louis utters to me, “Good luck. You can’t even save yourself.” I give him a death glare and I start to limp my way to the girl. I am almost halfway there when I can hear a faint screaming, “Don’t expect me to save you this time, because I won’t!” A few seconds later the white explorer zooms past me and just keeps going. I limp faster and faster until I see the girl much easier. She is being mauled by a herd of zombies and it seems that her only weapon is a large hammer. I immediately drop my backpack and run to a tree. It is like the pain in my foot immediately went away once I saw someone in danger. I climbed up the tree so I can get a clearer view of the commotion.Quickly, I load up my bow and aim towards the zombie closest to her. She has fallen down and her hammer is just out of her reach. I shoot the zombie that is about to lunge onto her and it falls instantly. She looks around to see who just saved her life. She has no clue what direction it even came in but she starts to crawl backwards as there are still twelve more zombies around her, and I only have eleven arrows.
She is still crawling backwards until she falls flat on the ground and screamed as loud as ever. I load up my bow and loose another arrow, again and again ten times in a row, killing ten zombies. I jump down from the tree and land on my butt. I don’t really care and I jump back to my feet and race towards the girl, who is still on the ground. I help her up and I turn around to see a zombie not even one foot away from me. I stab it in the eyeball and it falls to the ground, “Hey I’m Nevaeh.” I say as I am attempting to take the arrow out of the skull. “I kind of just save your life.” I look up at her, smile and wave. She has a confused look on her face as she just waves. I can’t seem to get my arrow out and I give up and say, “Where’s that hamm-“ and I felt a zombie fall upon me. I scream for my dear life for her to kill it. She stands there, in shock and motionless. I scream, “Louis!” But I just remembered he told me he wasn’t going to save me this time. “Help me!” I yell at the girl. She is shaking like a leaf but isn’t moving at all. I continue to scream for about thirty seconds, as the only thing that is keeping me from being dead is my hand. This mystery girl has been just watching and screaming this entire time. I can’t accept the fact that I might die right now so I use all of my strength to push the zombie off of me. I roll multiple times and attempt to get up. The zombie is not happy with me and lunges towards me once again. I scream for another minute while my hand is still separating the zombie and me.
My arm is weakening and as I am about to give up, a bullet is shot through the zombie’s head. The walker sits on top of me as I take short, quick breaths. I push the dead corpse off of me and stand up. I look around to see Louis standing by the white explorer with his sniper gun. I run into his arms sobbing. We stand in the sound of my crying for a while until he whispers, “I told you not to go.”
Still crying, I mutter, “I had to go she would have died if it wasn’t for me.”
“I realize that,” He starts, “But you almost died in the process of saving her.”
