As a broken sob escaped Taehyung's lips, a frenzy of unknown emotions washing over him, the boy dropped his half empty mug of black coffee on the floor. The sound of broken glass didn't pierce through him as he curled in a sad ball on the furry carpet in his living room.
1st September was the worst day of his life. Or was it?
For all this to make sense, let's rewind a little.
Jeongguk was a jealous and overly possessive man. And Taehyung had absolutely no idea.
After a long argument of "you go", "no, you go," and a rather whiney fit of stomping feet thrown by a very mature adult Jeon Jeongguk, Yoongi finally sighed.
Standing up, he walked all the way to a table in the cafeteria where one chirpy boy, two angrily fuming and one vexed young man were sitting abnormally quietly.
Yoongi cleared his throat, unable to find the right words. Three pairs of eyes looked at him, two of them extremely excited, one curious.
"Hey Yoongi!" "Hey Yoongi," Hoseok and Jimin exclaimed simultaneously, glaring at each other after that.
"Um, hi," Yoongi smiled awkwardly, waving at them before shoving his hands in his jeans pockets. Jimin's eyes sparkled and Taehyung didn't even look up as he scratched the table with his fork.
"Hey, you're in my music class, right?" Seokjin commented with a smile, making Hoseok and Jimin's head snap in his direction.
"Oh, yeah," Yoongi nodded, "Seokjin right?"
"Yes, sir."
"Oh, um, well," Yoongi cleared his throat again nervously, avoiding Jimin's eyes, "I am hosting a party tomorrow and it would be great if you all could... come."
"We'd love to, Yoongi!" Jimin exclaimed excitedly before Hoseok, making the redhead roll his eyes.
"Definitely, Yoongi, you'll see us there," Hoseok said rather seductively, winking at the blue haired male.
Yoongi was a little taken aback by the gesture but he didn't let it show to the oblivious Jimin. He started taking steps back, "Oh also, it's Jeongguk's birthday so... do consider getting gifts."
Taehyung looked at Yoongi sharply at that, a frown on his face before his gaze flickered to the brown haired male across the cafeteria.
But Jeongguk was busy scrolling through his phone, not looking at the exchange. Once Yoongi was out of earshot and Jimin and Hoseok's staring match returned, Taehyung sighed.
"Don't expect that I'll go with you," Taehyung scratched his jaw, his stubble hard under his fingers.
"Why not?" Jimin whined, wrapping his arms around his best friend.
"Because it's Jeongguk's birthday and I'm so not interested," he replied, running a hand through his hair.
"Aw, c'mon Tae," Seokjin smiled, "You hang out with me, okay? He won't annoy you when hyung is here."
"I don't know, Jin," Taehyung sighed again. He wanted to tell them about their fight from a while back, but decided to shut up instead, "I'll let you know tomorrow."
Seokjin nodded in understanding, resuming to stare at Namjoon. The rest of the day was rather slow. After lunch, they departed for their respective classes. Taehyung was about to lift his brush to resume to his painting when suddenly he had a better idea.
He ripped off the incomplete painting, tossing the crumbled paper in the trashcan before starting all over.
By the time Taehyung was done, he was extremely tired. He stretched his hands, the sounds of his joints cracking broke the dense silence of the now empty classroom. He checked his watch, realising that it was already half past eight as he decided to head back to his house.
